The developers have said since 2009 that they want to make a Mac version of NS2. They've been promising multiplatform support for a very long time. If it was as simple as just changing a couple lines of code to make a Mac version, they'd do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, porting a game to Mac is quite a lot of work. They had to postpone work on porting the game to get it ready for release, and since then they've been trying to resolve the major issues preventing current players from playing.
tl;dr - they have indicated they want to make a Mac version, no date has been given for when it might become available.
It's important to note that Apple is in the lead for personal computing devices... only if you include tablets. Certainly for gaming that is valid as the gaming app market is currently evolving in ways never seen before. In some cases, these apps are faithful ports of existing PC games although with different interfaces.
As someone who daily uses both Windows and OSX PCs, I have to say that there is still a sizable performance gap with games on a Mac. It is getting better though with every iteration of the Mac. At this point it's down to just the built in video cards and OS graphic code (compared to DirectX) holding Macs back.
I'm just addressing the Mac hate from people who don't know the facts. I do agree though that Macs at present would not run this game well.
@Volcano: Thanks for pointing that out. I'm looking forward.
@Cornflakes. Thanks for your comment. I was unaware of that anouncement.
@Excessive: I'm not sure if you know anything about macs.
@Flankright: Thanks for your input. Lets not forget where DirectX comes from. People would do better working with an open platform like OpenGL, like so many games have.
@Cannabba: not entirely true. Mac works great out of the box, but has at least as much customalisation possibilities as windows. And Mac has a fair amount of games.
@enhaxed: I'm not really in favor of emulating windows on my mac, it feels ... wrong. but if it'll take that to play the game, I might consider it.
Being a leading computer vendor and being a leading OS vendor are two completely different things. The only thing that makes Mac's different from any other PC is a couple of propriety buttons and the OS, that's it. So when people say, "I want a Mac version!" they are really asking for a version that runs in the OSX platform, not on a Mac.
The reason why most games aren't on OSX is because it doesn't offer the industry standard API's and frameworks necesary for most games. Windows is still at about 70.3% of the market share and OSX is only about 9%, 18% if you count iOS. There just isn't a large market for it at the moment.
For the PC users who is making unconstructive responses without technical knowledge here,
Get a life.
You're using the world's worst sloppy, broken and ancient OS on the world yet just polluting around trying to create a troll war.
Edit:
"...You might be able to guess that this is a Linux Ubuntu desktop, running the Unity interface. These screenshots were taken on Dushan and Max’s work machines, respectively, at the same time. They show that not only is Natural Selection 2 now running on Linux, we are even starting to successfully trial actual networked play. In theory, we could have connected Windows players to the same server.
This does not mean we are about to release NS2 on Linux. But we are getting damn close. This is real, we are aiming for true SteamPlay Windows / Linux / Mac support. Max and Dushan are working full time on bringing this dream to fruition, and we can’t wait to share more progress with you over the coming weeks..."

That catch 22 is a tough nut to break and I really think it would require Apple to take a more firm stance on OSX as a true gaming platform to do any real change.
Then there's of course the whole "problem" of being able to easily install Windows on Macs... not exactly something that's encouraging for developers to spend all that time making and optimizing Mac versions.
