As for cheats/hacks? Haven't seen that once in 450 hours of playtime. NS2 is just not big enough to warrant attention from the cheat developers out there. Most of them want to make money off selling their garbage, and there's not all that much to be gained from making NS2 stuff cheats compared to say CoD/CS/BF/Crysis. Especially since NS2 runs on it's own engine, which means they would have to start from scratch.
Not saying that there's no cheaters out there, just saying it's nowhere near what you might think if you listen to the "zomg!11 HAXX!"-crowd.
Still, I frequently encounter suspiciously good players who see you instantly even when you don't move, in darkness and outside of radar field. And they kill you almost instantly with each bullet placed perfectly. Maybe they are really that good, maybe they are playing connected directly to a server, on 6 GHz PCs, have superhuman's vision, who knows...
I sometimes spot skulks that are hiding in the darkness because of their eyes. They glow pretty brightly. A pretty silly design decision there.
Another thing is that if you are in the view cone of a marine you will show up on the minimap for all marines. Sometimes aliens get revealed that way even if the marine player didn't actually see you.
Compared to poor perfomance on non-serious gaming rigs, disruptive players, and stacking? They aren't concerns.
I'd gladly take hackers over this 1/2-1 second lag issue that keeps popping up. Game lags out for a full second in the middle of combat randomly. Some days the system runs fine in a mass hive fight with exos and onos. Some days 1 skulk in an empty room jumps me and the game lags out making it impossible to shoot him. And my ping is sub 100.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me.
No, it doesn't. As I stated before, massive fights in a hive with oni and exos sometimes don't happen and at the start of the game facing just 1 skulk or just 1 marine it sometimes happens. That is why it's so irriating. Because there isn't a performance reason why it's occuring. If it was a hardware issue causing perfomance problems, it should occur far more regularly with high demand on my system. This isn't the case.
There are some seriously good shot players, and you generally know who they are because they play compettively and still frequent some servers.
I am aware of the texture skin to make skulks stand out. No idea if someone is using it or how easy it is to do.
Pistol scripts, never ran into one but I know people talk about them.
I saw play on a server that has admins, like one of ours[www.nationalgaming.org]. Yes there are cheaters and texture hacks etc. You need the police ;)
