Is scripting/hackers an issue?
I keep hearin about people with pistol "crutch" scripts and what not. Is this a real thing or are people just getting whooped and blame hacks?

you can make the pistol automatic with a script, but you can probably achieve the same thing by putting fire on your mousewheel and then just spinn it to fire fullauto. I doubt its that much of a problem tbh. There are far bigger issues like performance or stacked teams or balance issues.

I've played a fair amount of NS2 and I've come across people with pistol scripts twice. So yeah, I wouldn't say that it's a huge issue. It's also blatantly apparent that they using it and from what I saw... it didn't even help them one bit. They still couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

As for cheats/hacks? Haven't seen that once in 450 hours of playtime. NS2 is just not big enough to warrant attention from the cheat developers out there. Most of them want to make money off selling their garbage, and there's not all that much to be gained from making NS2 stuff cheats compared to say CoD/CS/BF/Crysis. Especially since NS2 runs on it's own engine, which means they would have to start from scratch.

Not saying that there's no cheaters out there, just saying it's nowhere near what you might think if you listen to the "zomg!11 HAXX!"-crowd.

I've seen a couple of people using it, not a huge issue though. Definitely something the devs should fix though, they should slow down the fire rate until the maximum can actually be achieved with legit clicking. It's silly that the fire rate is so fast that people using scripts get an advantage.

I also heard people use specific texture packs that make aliens glow, etc. What do you think about that?

Never used these, but tried color-coded weapons, very helpful. glowing textures probably would be almost as beneficial as wallhack.
Still, I frequently encounter suspiciously good players who see you instantly even when you don't move, in darkness and outside of radar field. And they kill you almost instantly with each bullet placed perfectly. Maybe they are really that good, maybe they are playing connected directly to a server, on 6 GHz PCs, have superhuman's vision, who knows...

I sometimes spot skulks that are hiding in the darkness because of their eyes. They glow pretty brightly. A pretty silly design decision there.

Another thing is that if you are in the view cone of a marine you will show up on the minimap for all marines. Sometimes aliens get revealed that way even if the marine player didn't actually see you.

Many players play on minimum graphics settings and if bloom is turned off, you can't see the glowing eyes :( I didn't notice this effect until recently. Game is unfair to players with lower end systems in many ways..

Compared to poor perfomance on non-serious gaming rigs, disruptive players, and stacking? They aren't concerns.

I'd gladly take hackers over this 1/2-1 second lag issue that keeps popping up. Game lags out for a full second in the middle of combat randomly. Some days the system runs fine in a mass hive fight with exos and onos. Some days 1 skulk in an empty room jumps me and the game lags out making it impossible to shoot him. And my ping is sub 100.

yer, there myriads other issues such performance (both server and client side) that should be more cause for concern than pistol scripting. Hopefully UWE will implement something to increase the refire rate or something. But right now this is not a big issue

Sounds like a hardware issue to me.

No, it doesn't. As I stated before, massive fights in a hive with oni and exos sometimes don't happen and at the start of the game facing just 1 skulk or just 1 marine it sometimes happens. That is why it's so irriating. Because there isn't a performance reason why it's occuring. If it was a hardware issue causing perfomance problems, it should occur far more regularly with high demand on my system. This isn't the case.

I have maybe seen some sketchy play maybe 2 or 3 times? I have played for over 500 hours.

There are some seriously good shot players, and you generally know who they are because they play compettively and still frequent some servers.

I am aware of the texture skin to make skulks stand out. No idea if someone is using it or how easy it is to do.

Pistol scripts, never ran into one but I know people talk about them.
Daddy Shark Feb 28, 2013 @ 3:14pm
I've only seen three real hackers and they're pretty obvious when you run across one. It's not a huge issue right now but I see how it could be if UWE don't do anything to curb it.

I saw play on a server that has admins, like one of ours[www.nationalgaming.org]. Yes there are cheaters and texture hacks etc. You need the police ;)

There's obvious Spoofers (Name changers), and the script for pistol dumping, but outside of some weird moments where dudes seem to be locating and aiming just a "bit" too well, I wouldn't say there's a huge problem.
