New Players: Start Here
As the Halloween sale is going on, there's likely to be new players buying the game,

Thus:

I wrote that guide specifically for brand new players to NS2. There are plenty more guides that go into further detail, but that's pretty much the only guide explicitly targeting brand spanking new NS2 players that doesn't overwhelm them with hard technical data.

The guide focuses on basics which rookies should focus on first.

Nice! Some great tips. Thanks for your work. I also got some good pointers from watching videos/streams on, for example, http://www.twitch.tv/reddogtv/. Your guide helps to understand the casters a lot, which is difficult for noobs like me.
Oh boy. People need to read this guide before playing. Just came from a game where a bunch of rookies didn't know what a teleporter was (despite being told). Despite it being all glowing and doorway-ish.
*thumbs up*

You can also check out "Its Super Effective"s Youtube channel. Search for "its SUper effective NS2" on youtube. He did the new tutorial videos for the game, and has some nice game play videos there. There is also the awesome NS2 explained in 1 minute video that will show you a little of what the game is about.
Yea, well some of the "vets" need to quit whining so much on low skill noob friendly servers. Seriously, makes you look like an ass without the skill to play on a better server.
If you're having FPS problems (like most people in this game), set your graphical settings to low/off and lower your resolution. Most people cannot play this game at 1920x1080 without horrible FPS.

I have an i5 4670K, 8 GB DDR3 and a GTX 560 and I run the game at 1680 x 1050

I run the game lower than that. Use headphones and keep that mouse sensitivty up high enough to kill the skulk that jumped over your head. Sounds travel too well through walls.

Also play alien too, You can learn only part of the map playing marine. Many new people seem to stack marines. It's easier to kill aliens when you know their game and movement first hand.

Like to say I got this game on the sale, Rookies will keep the game going, but from my experience in the game so far not much tolerance from veteran players. New players for mutiplayer only games are a good thing, I toke the time to learn the basics and did some training in the game. So you go to a rookie server and it fills with veteran players, thay call you out over the mike this guy cant play or command right and vote you off lol, you say back i still learnin to play, If there are any rookies out there want to play in private server, I promise wont critisize you for being new to this game like me or any other game.

Yea, that's what I was saying above. You go on a rookie friendly server, and hear nothing but b*tching from the vets who have 1000 f*cking hours. Get real. And most of the won't command, and the ones that do so far in the games I've played have been HORRIBLE all the while complaining.

This always annoyed me. If you're going to complain about the Comm, you should have done it yourself. I've Commed 4 games tonight alone. Vets should be getting in the chair. Period. Players who complain about new Comms should either STFU or get in the chair themselves. Played a game with a new Marine Com and we lost, but we taught him how to do it and how to turtle.

I also got a lerk in the face with a GL in that game. That was fun.

Well, we appreciate your guides and your understanding. It just gives some of the newcomers a bad taste. On the opposite end though, I just came from another server where I played for hours and it was GREAT.

I think it was different though because there was no Commander. Was it called a "combat" server I think? (I didn't know going in, but picked it up and it was fun)

No complaints from anyone all night, not one. Little friendly ribbing from people who obviously play together, that's it. And there were plenty of rookies with low scores. And lots of people with stupidly high scores (I fell right about in the middle of the board as a whole, low on my team).

I just hate seeing people (myself included almost) getting turned off right away by a percieved bad community; like going into Leage of Legends or something (which is notoriously bad, one of the worst gaming communities on the net).

Thank you again for being one of the good guys.
Thx :) . I just bought that and i will use your tips

Does someone have the link to "how to play a skulk" gif? Saw it on reddit. It was pretty accurate :)
Vets imo should not be playing with rookies in the same way they play normally because they will just destroy them and that can really drive people away. They should either play in regular white and community driven servers like KKG and Heidis or be prepared to play Gorge or Commander.

Unfortunately, people are c*nts and they enjoy stomping new players.

Recommend sticking to rookie servers and asking for help. Show an interest in learning and people will be more likely to help.

Yeah, it varies. There are some bad apples on this game, like all games.

Yes, there's a mod called Combat. Those servers will have a CO_ in their map name. I got a section on that in my guide.

There's some stomping now which is annoying.

No problem.
