Hive tech tree order, gorge upgrade first followed by two bio mass? Or vice versa.

I've had this discussion in game several times, I'd like to hear others opinion in a less heated moment.

Which do you feel is more wise or makes more sense?

Please choose;

Option A: Getting the gorge upgrade first, followed by getting two bio mass.

Or

Option B: Getting two bio mass followed by getting the gorge upgrade.

I think biomass is meant to give a small health or armour boost or something. Unsure exactly how it works, but probably it first because of that.

Yeah, every level of biomass increases the health of all lifeforms, so it makes more sense to get that first. Best to time Gorge upgrade with a second hive so that you can have both bio 3 and gorge upgrade available at about the same time.

Basically this. The small health boost affects your whole team, while the gorge upgrade only affect gorges, and to be honest, I haven't seen that many gorges spending their res this early on babblers. So in most games it's kinda useless to get it before bio3.


But you've got me interested there. You mentioned that you had this discussion before, what were the responses?

Of those who do things like get gorge or skulk upgrades before having even close to the corrosponding biomass, none were receptive to the suggestion of getting the biomass before, not after, or at least in conjunction. Suggesting that it was wiser to get it first was, at best responded with the idea that the extra health was worthless. I found that baffling but any further discussion where disagreeing with someones statement is often met with fierce anger that, I have found, can ruin a game.

I honestly asked this question to make sure I wasn't crazy.

You're not crazy.
The only thing could be this: That if you're planning on getting a hive before getting 3 biomass on the first hive, then that new hive would count as a biomass: which would get you gorge upgrades to time with the building of the second hive.
I bring this up because of skulk upgrades needing 4 biomass and it's cheaper to get two hives with an extra biomass each; than two hives with one having two extra biomass.
So, one could argue getting gorge upgrades before biomassing the first hive out if he was planning a second hive sooner than bile bomb. Or at the same/near same time.

I have met some whom incorrectly believe that you don't get the health/armor bonus unless you have that lifeform's upgrade research. Maybe you met the same sum.

Biomass first IMO, babblers aren't important early game. Gorges have to spend their res on tunnels and hydras.

Gorge upgrade without biomass is useless. So get biomass first.

It goes like this :

Upgarde Hive (Shift/crag/shade)
(optional : get trait upgrades)
Biomass 2 on first Hive
Drop second Hive
--> While the second Hive is growing, research the Gorge Upgarde on the first Hive
Biomass 4 on second Hive
--> Skulk upgrade while biomass 4 is researching
Upgrade second Hive to (Shift/crag/shade)

If there is not other techpoint secured, you're in deep ♥♥♥♥. But still, then research biomass levels before the upgrade.

What is the point in getting the Gorge upgrade before Biomass 3? Babblers? Which are marginally useful? The gorge upgrade is researched for Bile Bomb which unlocks at Biomass 3.

I've never seen an experienced Alien com go with option A. Ever.
