It's a feature. Making line of sight a requirement would make them useless, enough ARCs are getting wrecked each day by battlepigs. :D (aka gorges).
ok thanks for the answer :)

ARCs make some sort of "sonic" attacks, so yeah they shoot through walls :D . And they're awsome when a good commander knows how to sue them.

Ever heard of neutron bombs? they kill organic life forms but leaves everthing else intact. i think arc attacks are something like that.

It's a very balanced feature. The ARCs offer a trade-off with a safer (albeit slower) push on a fortified alien location on the expense of other tech, namely upgrades and jetpacks (the ARCs are extremely expensive). They offer the marines a possibility to 'attack while defending' so to speak, forcing the aliens to be the ones that need to attack a fortified marine position in order to save their own outpost. But if the marines DO lose that fight and lose the investment, they have spent tons of team resources in vain.

ARCs not being able to shoot through walls would make them useless, since if you were able to push inside an alien base and cover the ARCs during the siege, you wouldn't need them in the first place.
