I would suggest Xpadder if you really need to use a controller but tbh this game needs a mouse, it would be like trying to play CSS or Quake 3 with a gamepad, for example..

Co-op shooters are always the best if you want to play with a gamepad, l4d2 for example, and duke nukem 3d has just gotten gamepad support :) theres a game just come out called "Screencheat" aswel that might be to your interest, it has gamepad support, online and offline 4 player splitscreen and you can sign up to the free beta for it :)

Which of those FPSes feature asymmetrical teams and highly complex movement mechanics?

Dudes running horizontally across the screen are easy to hit with a controller, especially when those games commonly feature some form of aim assist.

NS2 doesn't really feature large numbers of targets who run in straight lines across the ground, and controllers simply don't have the snap aim necessary to play many of the alien classes effectively.

Aganist other controller yes. Microsoft's Shadowrun test showed that controllers are vastly inferior to Keyboard Mouse to the point where MS tabled console-PC shared gaming because the results were landslide in favor of keyboard/mouose.

Without autoaim, NS2 on a controller is unplayable as anything but Gorge.
