The Karters' Gameplay Trailer - impressions!
Everyone!

We bet you have already seen our gameplay trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vemiCKM8U-U which aired during Gamescom 2016.

Now we need as much comments as we can get. We had a ton of feedback at Gamescom, but since not everyone could have a chance to play it, you have a gameplay trailer which is pretty self-explanatory really ;)

What do you like, what do you not like? Suggestions? Impressions? Let's hear it!

I'm not really excited for the red-wheels while during the sideslip.
the general gameplay is gorgeous.
Is the right way

Good stuff!

I have a few notes, though:
  • I think showing the name of the weapon under the icon makes the interface look just a bit busier than it needs to be. Maybe have an option to turn this off?
  • For the radar in the bottom right corner, I think it would be good to have an alternative view of the map which is zoomed in to the dot which represents the player, and follows their position and rotates to face the direction they're facing.
  • I'd have to agree with TheGoodStrau that the tyres get a bit too bright when drifting.
  • The text that shows the time elapsed is a bit too small.
  • Are the things on top of the boxes supposed to be helicopter blades? If so, the boxes in the air should have their blades rotate.

Also, I was wondering: the music in the trailer has shown up in a few of your other videos. Is it going to be in one of the tracks, or the main menu?

TheGoodStrau & Unclekrusty,

Our HUD is under a small revision, so it's not a final version of what you will see in The Karters. First time someone said about a camera following the player only on the radar, interesting. We are aware of the tires, we'll try to tweak it. We think the text that shows time is good, but we'll take another look at it and I'll post here about our decision later on. The Helicopter blades usually rotate, thought it seems they tend to stop for no reason. Noted!

As far as the music goes - we're still contemplating if it would be good to include the Announcement Trailer music somewhere. Stay around and you'll see the results :)

Compared to the screenshots and some previous videos, the colours seem to be a bit washed out. It's the most noticeable with the Jungle track, but you can sort of see it on all of them to an extent. Could just be the video itself.

Jet Uppercut,

Hmm, I think the video itself gives the washed up/out effect as the game is pretty colorful and lively. People who played the latest version of our on Gamescom really enjoyed the graphics and even our very own fan loved it. But good eye! I hope you will be able to help us along the way as when EA comes, we will need all the help we can get to make The Karters a truly fun and polished game :)

This is actually exactly how I imagined this going, and I'm ecstatic. I feel i'm one of the few that don't mind the tires turning red to signify boost (an interesting design choice since everyone is more used to the black smote from CTR and etc) but it's definitely a lot better than some sort of busy VFX that would distract from the game play. Overall I actually like the direction of it. Some of my other points have already been touched on by the guys earlier so I'll just stop right here.

I noticed there were AI clones of the gorilla and the little alien guys. I presume it's just filler until all the other characters are added, but for multiplayer, will multiple human players be able to play as the same character?
Teiho Aug 26, 2016 @ 4:43pm
Unclekrusty,

I imagine so unless the Kart's have different variables about them that would make playing the same one unbalanced.

Teiho & Unclekrusty,

Exactly as Unclekrusty is saying, in EA you will be able race with the same characters as we haven't announced the new ones, so yeah - two gorillas, two aliens etc.
Character statistics should be implemented, but not in EA, at least for now.

the red-wheels is something weird for me too, but its an original idea, i can kkep it, it also indicates your "mini boost" status. We will see during EA phase
The general gameplay form what ive seens maybe need a very little unnotaceble more speed (+5%), but as i said first, We will see during EA phase...

- The name under weapon can be useful, but using very short names, if they insert long names, yes, can be distractive.
- The radar/minimap i suggest to remove the whole blue circle behind the white map shape, and make the mini map bigger as the (ex) blue background. Also adding alpha layer, at 50%, so the minimap looks semi-transparent and less distractive
- About the bright weels, its may looks different from monitor to monitor, let's just wait for the game release so we can see it. Watching avideo and play the game doesnt give the same experience
- Yup. The HUD showing lap counter, lap time and position looks a little too small for this kind of game. I suggest to separate thoe info around the screen, like using top left and top right for space. A simple speed-o-meter is also appreciated on bottom left of the screen.
- Item boxes can be improved, or replaced the model at any time, so weell see the final effect later. The only thing i can say is adding maybe some sparkle particles around boxes just to give a better look and attractive at the same time. Make them rotate is also suggested.
- I have no idea about audio tracks that will be used. Well'see during EA...

How about adding a in-game HUD editor that allows you to "place" HUD info everywhere the scene? ive seen this feature only on 1 game, but its a cool idea, so anyone can customize theyir HUD. Let me know if its possible... :D

Yeah, this game looks promising, so that's why im here to give feedback, its a good result, if you thing this game is made on Unity Engine.

Most probably yes, being unable to play your favourite character like *cough*Sonic e Racing Transformers*cough* is a really bad decision.

It would be great if they add maybe different skins of the same character, in order to add more variation of the same character. That would be appreciated.

I think the game will have the same variables, so unbalanced things will dont happens

I personally not intrested in character statistic and such, but if they will add it, maybe can be appreciated

Costa,

Thanks for posting such a long feedback post! :)

In terms of speed, we would have to run a couple of tests if we were to implement a +5% increase. At Gamescom some players wanted the game to be a bit faster as well, we got an eye out for this one.

Rotating the item boxes is something we heard for the very first time, I'll let everyone know and we'll see what we can do.

HUD customization is also a first. Hmm, HUD discussions weren't frequent, but customizing your own sounds nice. I'll let everyone aware of this.

And yeah, for now each character will have the same statistics. If something would change I will most definitely let you guys know.

Costa, more posts please! :)

When I was teen most of the time i eat cornflakes and played CTR and Crash Bandicoot 3.
CB3 102% (full game was 104% i think) and CTR 100% but without nOxide on all tracks ( I did on most tracks). Still i rekt my 5 brothers, few friends and sister in this game and had 2 friends to compete hard. I beat them all most of the time, because i played so much dived deep into game. Still being so young game left a mark on my heart <3. When i saw triller, which was shown to me by my friend I was like. OMG IS IT REAL? And i said to him, look it looks as dynamic as CTR (other cart games never felt as dynamic as CTR, CNK was no even close), those jumps! those backturbos, and hilly tracks with locations different from each other. Got to love it hard. So video left me with full of hope for this game.

Character look better then Mario/Sonic cart game. I know nothing of Karters/Mario/Sonic characters just comparing looks and design. It's important that characters are not similar to each other like in Sonic or not all-silly as in Mario. CTR had good cast of well rounded characters that differed in looks and expressions. I carters i already like 3 characters and i only saw 3 i think ;p

I one of videos i saw that weapon picture info was kind of too big. Nice icon can tell a lot without being too big. Can't wait for more. AND OMG SPLIT-SCREEN + ONLINE COMPETE, I'm not godly tier player tho i beat my friends hard. Can't wait to find my place among other players and spend hours up on hours in this game. I don't tend to make empty hypes. My hypes are real.:steamhappy:!

Kitabake,

Glad you are hyped up as we are and thanks for sharing your story with us! It's always nice to read a story like that, it will be a joy to race against you when the game goes live. Also, thanks for your trailer impressions.

Looking forward to racing everyone and my friends via splitscreen :)
