Settlers 7: Tips to get it working

I've fought with this game for hours now and here at the tips I think will help people get this working, consistently. One thing after another was failing and my patience was wearing out rather quickly.

1. Do NOT use the Uplay client that comes bundled with the Steam version. Once you install it via Steam, go to Control Panel > Programs and uninstall Uplay. Go to the Uplay website and download the latest client. It is different from the version that is bundled with the game - very different.

2. Once installed, put Uplay into Offline mode. This will save you from getting suck in the "Downloading Uplay game files" hell, where the client won't launch the game because it can't seem to download ... something. To do this, launch the Uplay client and login. In the upper right corner of the client, click the gear icon and choose the option "Go Offline".

3. Force Uplay to always start in Offline mode. In the upper right corner of the client, click the gear icon and choose settings. Click the Network tab. Check the box for "Always start Uplay in Offline Mode" and uncheck "Allow Uplay to use a proxy connection to access the internet." If you do, in fact, use a proxy, leave that checked and put in your proxy information. Save the settings.

By doing these steps, I was able to get the game to launch everytime via Steam. Hopefully this will help some people out there.
