Tonnage bar not filling up
I'm playing through the first mission, and doing the british coastal waters mission (where you have to sink ~50,000 tons). However, I've had this problem where no matter what I do, none of the kills count.

I've heard all kinds of differing accounts but nothing's helping me: killing ships inside the red line (the mission area) doesn't count. Killing ships within ~50km of the patrol point doesn't count (and that's after waiting forever for a ship to actually come NEAR the point). Considering pickings are already slim enough around the coastal waters mission area, not having any of the tonnage count is really frustrating.

Could someone explain exactly what I need to do, step by step, to complete this mission? And, if it really is a bug and not just that I'm missing something obvious, what can I do to help?

Bugged beyond all reasonable recognition. Two choices that I know of. Keep restarting the mission and career until it works. Alternatively, go to subsim.com and download a mod such as Wolves of Steel which disables this nonsense.

Should mention not always necessary to restart career, and simply trying the mission a 2nd time after returning from patrol has had success.

The tonnage bar starts to move after you have sunk a patrol ship in the designated area. To do this properly, make sure you reveal everything first and locate a patroll. Sink one or more ships, then sink a merchant vessel.

I have put in 60 hours to no avail. Still no tonnage bar. Tried modding, tried everthing. Absolute waste of time and money. First complaint ive ever had with steam. This game is an unplayable, rippoff.

Got the problem with Malta supplies and Force A missions in the Mare Nostrum-campaign. Sunk several battleships but none of them counted and got the 50000 tons of freighters several times (theoretically).

There is a solution but not for Steam players. On the SubSim forum are a ton of patches, mods, and other changes to make this great game be what it should have been. However to fix this issue you must patch the sh5.exe file. And since we are stuck inside Steam we are stuck inside the Valve process of inspecting the exe, seeing if it matches what it knows to be a "valid" exe, and then immediatly undoing your patches. I also bought the game on Amazon. However when I ran it I was informed by UbiSoft that my install wasn't valid because of this install. Kind of a catch 22.

I have the same problem. I found that the missions have to be done in one patrol to be completed. Coastal waters is not so bad. British supplies, however is a pain in the ass to go back and forth through the channel for refit.

I've had that problem too, but I got the Wolves of Steel Mod Pack off Subsim and it gets rid of he need for the ton bar and instead sends you areas to patrol instead of requiring a specific amount of tonnage to be sunk. Not that difficult to install if you follow the well written instructions on the forum post in Subsim
