Game crashing on a specific spot

I've been playing the hell out of Dead Space 2 long before I got the Steam version and now the game crashes resulting in a BSOD every time I enter the Gravity Centrifuge room at Chapter 10.

I did the following to fix the problem but to no avail:

1.) Possible corrupted save file. I saved on a new slot, load new save and game still crashed.
2.) Check file integrity and game still crashed.
3.) Check drives for errors. Still crashed.

What I didn't do:

1.) Update Nvidia drivers. I'm avoiding the latest update because it screws up h.264 10-bit video playback.
2.) Reinstalled the game.

Is there something I'm missing here? I did not use any custom settings aside from turning off v-sync in the game and used nvidia's v-sync via control panel to get a 60 FPS gameplay experience.

So... help!

I THINK I know the problem. Are you, by any chance, using a Razer Kraken 7.1 headset or similar or using a virtual surround software?

I fixed mine by setting the audio setting in the game to "Stereo" and unplugged my headset and plugged in a regular analogue stereo headphones. After I'm done with the area, I switched back to my headset and the game stopped crashing.

For me at least, it appears the virtual surround software is causing the game to crash.
