Game crashes on launch, no error message.

Ok, so here is my problem, whenever i launch Alexander the screen turns black for a second as it is starting the game and then it crashes. it is still in my taskbar but has stopped working. I had this same problem yesterday but fixed it by installing windows updates, today windows is up to date so that is not the problem.

I've added the LOTR mod to the game but i don't think that is the problem since normal RTW and BBI won't launch either. Medieval 2 has no launching problems. (all games are from steam)
enable steam community in game is already disabled and launch options are set to -mod:alexander/lotrtw

I should note that i've played this game without any troubles for a few days and suddenly it stopped working.

Hopefully someone out here knows a way to fix this because I can't seem to figure it out.
