If you have a decent army you could join the crusade, then you can hire special mercs for the crusade. Otherwise you should ignore it.

My meathod of fighting in a crusade was to build a full stack army place it on a ship, sail the ship to right next to where you need to attack, then make the army a crusade army and attack the place. I find that this avoids the loss of troops crusading armys get. Hope this helps.

It really depends which country you play. The further away you are from the Crusade, the less likely you'll travel there.

I like Death's strat. My first time through the game, I found that my troops were deserting because I was taking too long to get to the Crusade.

Random question: Does anyone else thing that the British Isles are too easy? Everything that includes with Scotland and England are far too easy. In fact, England seems weak almost every playthrough.

hey thanks for response im a noob it does help ;) im playing as the english now there troops are awfull only just beating rebels also finding with english there income takes ages to build up

Well good thing about playing with the English is that it is quite easy to conquer the British Isles as there is only Scotland there competing with you. Then with decent naval forces defending the Isles is a breeze. Also, Longbowmen.

One thing about being on crusade that's nice is that you don't have to pay upkeep on the units while they are on crusade, and you can hire mercenaries dirt cheap. I like to make a sizable cavalry army, put it on crusade, hire any cavalry mercs, then put them on a ship and sail them over. As long as you head straight there, desertion shouldn't be too bad (depending on how far you're going), and the whole journey you aren't paying for those expensive troops upkeep. Just make sure, once you've taken the target province, that you pump out some cheap garrison troops, then expand with the good troops quickly so you can afford the upkeep when you have to start paying again.

Hmm, guilds, I don't remember how you get them. I think it depends on the guild...google to the rescue!

To build up income, pay close attention to trade. If you can get a monopoly on, for example, wool, your trade profits will explode with the right trade partners.

Uggh playing as the romans, and they sound german eh who knows. And somehow the whole world hates me. At this point i have 4 enemies. Was also the biggest army to lol. Made a mistake and payed hardcore for it. Crusades seem like a joke it was a total waste of time so far.

The Holy Roman Empire is Germany " hence why they sound German"

Can you join a crusade without a general? I can't seem to figure out how.

I think this game hates me, I have tried every strategy in the book so far and no matter what approach I take it kicks me in the balls.

Now I've got all my armies on ships ready to attack but i can't 'join' a crusade. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
