Alien races as PCs?
This looks great but I didn't see any alien PCs (or NPCs) and it wasn't listed on the features list. Is it in there?

There's one on the trade station that you can talk to.

So they have an NPC but no PCs? C'mon man! This is space game. We need alien PCs in there. I mean there are so many sci-fi tropes these days that should've been used at this point.
Hell, look at Stellaris if you need ideas.

Usually there is a cat-like race for instance. Traveller RPG has the Aslans. Niven used Kzinti. Probably a few others.

Other than this lack of aliens, I'm truly stoked about this game..not to the point of buying it yet..but I'm close. Need to review it again. My biggest problem these days is time. I lack time for games... :-(

Yeah, I like it. Nothing too OP but some neat perks, etc. would be cool. Kinda like dwarves and elves that have infravision, etc.

Aliens are coming - though you will need wait and see if you can actually recruit one.

The blue character by the bar is actually a descendant of a mutation from one of the original ships. He has a bit of dialog that explains. One of the 4 ships that left the homeworld generated numerous mutations that turned into a few species over the 10,000 year journey - Phage are just one of the mutations.

There are also other species that can be added as team members, but I don't want to spoil the fun ;)

It looks very impressive that's for sure! I've never seen a space RPG this large in scope or have this much depth. I'd always wished that Bioware during the Neverwinter Nights era had build a game like this one. Mass Effect was good but the story range was narrow by comparison.

Do the prices change at all once your galaxy is built? Im looking to be a trader to earn some extra cash and taking the time to write the price list down on every place i visit

Trade prices for ORE fluctuate depending on events in the universe, your faction and your charisma. There are base prices, but I wouldn't bother writing prices down yet. There is some work to do before that system is finished.

Commodities traders are no yet available. Their prices will also fluctuate depending on your faction, charisma, supply and demand.

Weapons, armor and other looted junk depend on your faction and charisma - those generally do not get traded. Trade items are items that can go in your ships cargo hold. You can make money exploring, mining and trading depending on what you like to do. Smuggling is also an option that involves combat and trading skills among other things.

Ok so if they fluctuate how is trading profitable or possible? Unless there was a way to browse other prices from other places. Like a world market.

In Privateer there was interesting way to follow prices. It was some kind of news you could read and find out i.e. there is water shortage on some planet or food production was too high on another.. so you could get idea where to buy cheap or sell high.

That would be very helpful. either that or a simple spread sheet telling of the fluctuating prices on various systems you have visited. Still alot of risk with pirates and that fact the prices might fluctuate while in transit if your hyperdrive isnt fast enough ect. Just makes it more possible for trade to actually work

my normal strategy is mid lvl cargo and the fastest drive available for quick high price/high risk products

Sparks - you can drop sensors in systems for real time trading data which allow you to place realtime buy and sell trade orders.

These sensors are expensive at first but as you progress they become more affordable.

They scan an area of space and higher quality sensors can scan an entire sector.

I haven't bought it yet, but I really like what I see. I keep coming back to watch these videos. lol. I still can't believe the scale. Any of you play the Traveller RPG? This game reminds me of what an implementation of Traveller might look like as a computer game.

Heard of it, but never tried it. Is it interesting?

That sounds great.

Buck Rogers didn't have aliens and it was a great space game. Humans were genetically spliced with creatures to make them more adaptable on other planets in our solar system. Which is actually a really novel concept.

That aside I think in this game the human race is extinct except for your crack team that was in cryostatis while the human race was ending, So aliens really have to be in the game just to fit the storyline.
