If the caster applies slow to their self, they should just drop instantly from the bridge due to not being able to pick up any momentum, not go further. The way it works in this one specific instance is crazy - if I hit someone I cast slow on, would they go flying into the sky? Of course not, but that's what happens with a gust of wind here.
