Linux version shutting down randomly
I was having problems with the linux version shutting down suddenly with no errors or anything, it was just after finding the crashed plane and finding the shotgun. I found that turning off the in game community fixed it for me (at least at that point). I think it was something to do with the popup for the mouse achievement - but I had other achieveme messages pop up ok so I am not sure.

Turning off the overlay didn't fix it, but it did get me further. While walking through venice I have the same game closing problem with no errors.

Same for me on Nvidia GTX560 ti. Started when I walked to the crashed plane, opening the door.. Changed the grapics some lower, restarted my computer but didn't help.

Maybe you could start steam / the game in terminal and see if an error prompt is shown.

I tried running steam in a terminal last night but there are no messages from the game at all - just the steam message that the game had exited. They may be all sent to a log file though, so I will try and find that tonight if there is one.

I did manage to get a bit further through venice though by just running straight through instead of going slow and listening to the dialog, but then the game closed the same way a bit later on in the middle of a fight.

for me too, the game seems to quit without any message randomly. I don't have any solution.

I have just tried with the latest stable nvidia driver 319.72 but I still have the problem. I also tried without a window manager - just X, an xterm and steam running but the game shut down even sooner then. I couldn't find any log files to check for errors.

I have same issue it does it randomly, I played for 1 hour fine, quit came back and it played for 10 minutes and started just closing. It did it early when I first started the game had to restart it about 4 times to get it to play for the 1 hour session. I noticed the longer I let it sit at a screen like a save point it would start to stutter the sound and not acknowledge button pushes. No I am at the metro station when the herd runs by and it justs dumps me out everytime there as we are waiting for them to pass.

freejack: waiting for the herd running by is the first place I got the game close problem. Turning off the steam in game overlay in the steam settings seemed to fix it for me after about 5 attempts of just retrying. The problem still comes back later in the game though.

Same here. It's quite random, but right after the crashes steam is trying to do some state update (maybe cloud upload or something). Actually it seems that the game hasn't been able to upload anything into the steam cloud, dunno even does this game support it? Could this have something to do with the crashes?

damn it did it for me as well. I played for hours with my crappy mac with intel graphics and now on my good linux/nvidia rig it closed after 10 mins.

I crashed to desktop around the time you have to wait for the horde. Using GTX 480, 12 Gb Ram, Ubuntu 12.04 Gnome desktop. Nvidia driver 331.17.

I finally got it to get past there. It still dumps randomly. Valve tossed us another update for linux this morning let's see what it does.
