Sword of the Stars II: Enhanced Edition

Sword of the Stars II: Enhanced Edition

Turn time so long it burns
Personally all I want out of an expansion is a turn time that isn't so long I have the time to go and //insert wild overexaggeration here//...

For the love of god speed up the turn time. Until then... CBF playing this otherwise great game. I don't have the time.

Get a better CPU man. Or play on smaller maps with fewer players. 4 player small disk works great.

If you have a bunghole CPU then don't expect flawless performance on turn 300 on massive 7 player maps.

_-_-_-_-_-

Where in the requirements does it state that certain maps are better played on nonbunghole CPUs?

Where in his post does the OP indicate that he has a "bunghole CPU"?

What does "bunghole CPU" even mean?

And also be aware that people with elite systems experience long turn times.

i5 2500k. No bungholes here tbh. Looking forward to playing this game when its like, half what it is now.
i can't really see what the problem is. sure turn loading could be optimised but my core i3 540 seems to run it fine up until turn 400ish.

whats your ram and graphics card like
Same here! And i Have an i7 with 570 SLi And 16 gb ram
16 gigs of high quality ram and a gtx 570. Obviously "fine" is a very subjective term. I think its safe to say compared to the original it must be like, 10x slower or more.
Amount of ram wont make turntimes faster. Just CPU.
Haven't had any issues with turn times or UI slowness really on my i7-3770k but it's OCed to 4.3ghz and I've only played on 4 player maps. Simulated combat still seems like it takes too long though but since I've never played a game that does it that way who knows if it's excessive? However, it doesn't seem to run multiple simulated combats at the same time currently, which would be nice to see down the road to better take advantage of multi-core CPUs.
turn times not that big of a deal on this end. However menu close/open times are.
And yes the game does not seem to make proper use of multi core CPUs meaning weaker quad cores like the i5 750 with low clock speed pr core suffer. But this has been an issue since quad cores hit the market.
let me se, Total annihalation, with 10 players, thousands of 3d units and terrain, 100+ screen wide maps, made in 1997 for single core, ran just fine on a 586 233mhz with 96mb ram. But.. now a day. omg.. 7 players..thats insane! (sarcastic) on a multicore 3-4-5ghz CPU, gigabytes of ram and powerfull GPU's ..it just isnt enough for 7 players map with a few planets..wtf lol menus cant open, game not responcive and what not.. i wonder if programmers get more lazy/stupid and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at coding as it seems to be a general problem. sins of solar empire also comes to mind :S
no they just get overambitios and don't really think anymore about how much computation the average pc can handle
an issue might as well be ram acces time

Currently 1min+ per turn (from about turn 100 on, currently 168) once I press end turn.(freeze, not some nice transition) Large map, 7 players. Not including the other delays in the ui. Its got to the point I have a laptop on for something to do between turns.

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 6 cores (stock 3.1ghz, tried o/c currently at 3.89ghz no difference in turn times.
16ghz corsair 1800mhz iirc.
AMD radeon hd 6970 currently with all settings on I was down to 2 fps in some battles between default fleet sizes (6 odd ships) carriers with drones, with missiles flying zoomed in.
With most things unticked, and texture quality on 75% its ok, down to 8fps or so when its busy.
(SSD windows drive, seperate fast gaming drive.)
NO problems in other games. Before anyone asks, yes I have the latest drivers for everything.

From the impression i get lurking at the kerberos forums their attitude is, its not the game. The attitude is "what do you expect" or "dont play large maps" bla bla bla. Ive waited a year for this game to be ok. It has enormous potential but it aint there yet im afraid but its getting there.

I cant tell if they are just trying to put a positive spin on it (turn time delays) until they sort it out or if they dont think it will improve much, either way there seems a lot more hostility over at those forums lately, especially mecrons replies from what i have noticed lurking.

I personally will just wait again, hell whats another 6 months. Its gone from unplayable buggy scam release to 80% original sots quality/enjoyment albeit with a lot of unuser friendly ui issues etc. (2 hours spent scouring forums and wikis and the manual and tutorial screens trying to figure out diplomacy, until i realised the tiny little unmarked corners of the race pictures were clickable. I have more...)

One day ill get the responsiveness i got from the original... I hope. Maybe in 6 months.

Dont get me wrong, in its current state the game, once you can figure out how to mine/work diplomacy/loa gates/manage stations and the mission system etc etc , almost brings tears of joy to this old strategy gamers eyes.

Kherny.

Edit - missing current turn info/spelling

Ah, so that's how you do it. I tried clicking on the races and got nothing of course and there didn't appear to be any buttons on that screen. I just assumed it was because I hadn't built a diplomatic station yet.
