I have a few hundred hours on it. I did get about a dozen crashes in total. I think the crashes are (by now) mostly hardware-dependend.

I hadn't a single crash since the beginning, I suggest to restart sometimes the game because it slowly start to became slow after various turns. This always happen to me with Paradox published game. In HoI 3 for example there is a command like restartinterface to avoid the slow or the lag. Sorry for bad english, I hope you will enjoy this game soon. :D Caesar out.

upgraded my driver and run it in windowed, havent seen too many crashes yet.

Main issues now days of crashes is usually poor machine maintanence. There is the still the occasional outside influence as well (new driver update makes a change that throws the game off) but those are quickly solved.

no crashes for me. but i been getting alot of lag late game. turns take a while around 40 to 60 seconds to complete. combine that with getting a fair amount of pirate action. it can take a long long time to get anything done.then again just trying to upgrade a station takes a while. have to open the station menu, wait for it to load, find the station, ether by finding it manually or trying to separate it into its class, wait for that to load, click upgrade station, wait for that to load your fleet list, click fleet, click accept, i your loa you get another step with fleet composition.

still a good game thou i just wish it did not start to lag around turn 300.

Maybe the problem, like Ryat say, could be in our computers. Mine, for example, haven't enough RAM for this game, and near 150th turn it started to be as rman88 said, with lot of lag and long loadings. When it starts doing that I try restarting the game and it became more fluid for a while. After another 50-75 turns, when I have discovered more parts of the Galaxy and expanded my fleet the game start lagging again so I have to restart the game another time. I don't like it too much so I hope this discussion will find an answer.

It may have to do with the fact that it was built from the ground up to be a dual 32/64 bit engine. When they developed issues with the 64 bit side of the engine they set the switch to off for that side but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the crossover between 32 and 64 that can occur is causing the lag as it might be causing a memory leak. Hence the lag.

After 200 hours of playtime I have not even finished a game once. There is always a point where the auto-savegame gets corrupt and when I get unlucky there is a crash in the same turn. Meaning: Restart try to do something different and 99% of the time it still crashes. then I wait for the next patch in the hope to finally beat the bug.

The more they fix the less I can play on the high end machine (atm it won't even start even though I have the newest drivers and even the newest firmware). Ironically, when I want to play it at all I use my 5 year old notebook which translates to maybe 1 crash per two hours of gameplay on highest settings - and that one has an exotic gfx card and 32bit windows 7. Even on lowest settings I get the same amount of crashes. And yes, I did use all variations of settings.

On my high end machine (64bit windows 7) the statistics look even more dire: A crash every 27 minutes. I asume that every crash generates a crash logfile (even though I know it's not) and put the amount of log files in relation of gametime.

I have quite a high end 64 bit windows 7 machine and did not get any crashes during my latest games ( though they were about 2 months ago).
The lag times are, however, in my experience not related to crashes and make playing the game with large or huge galaxies n endeavour needing a lot of patience.

I have not had any crashes at all in over a year pf playing. Also Win7 x64. Crashes used to be an issue for everyone but have been pretty much fixed now it seems.

That's an opinion. Personally I am enjoying the new ways.

i know, i just feel the gameplay is more fluid in the first one. i dont get the missions and admiral thing when i should be able to just make fleets and move them where i want. but that is just the way i like it. others may value the more "personal" feel of your fleets in the second game, with all the visual improvements and extra features ofcourse.

happy gaming.
