The graphics are prettier than SOTS, but the AI is leagues better in the first game. They should have spent more time with the gameplay than with the graphics, especially with a strategy game. That's one of the major cardinal sin of today's developpers, focusing too much on graphics when it's the gameplay that really matter.
steam are total rippoff artists. done with this scam shop.
How do you have 8 unlocked achievements if you've never played the game?
Anyway, I just installed it again and have been playing fine without crashes.
Maybe the settings that he/she uses is more prone to crashes or maybe he/she is not playing in Windowed+Fullscreen(seems to bypass most CTDs).
I am aiming to round my 500th gameplay hour.
No, it is not a perfect game. It has it's flaws(AI and diplomacy being the greatest issues), but it still does a lot of things right.
Compared to the first game, I like the weapon/armor profile, as you want more than just raw damage and deflection modifiers.
I like the way sieges play out a whole lot more(a battle of "territory"), and how you can set up proper defenses.
I like how you instantly start with Cruisers and have easier access to different types of modules. Makes the combat feel much more meaty, compared to the 2-3 destroyer patrols you started with in the first game.
Once you get used to it, the Fleet+Admiral+mission system is very easy to use and help you keep an overview of what your ships are doing.
Similarly, I like the impact and usage of the different stations.
And the ship battles are still very spectacular.
Some say, that they shouldnt have focused so much on graphics, but they were using a new engine. It was needed for having more and better particles and textures(so that big ships are as detailed as the little ones), better shadow rendering, and better support of DX10 and DX11 features and 64-bit OS.
Then...I CTD a few minutes after starting.
Haven't been able to play since...which is a shame, since I liked the game. I've tried everything, even sent in my information on their forums, Mecron asked for it specifically...
No resolution.
Though, I do intend to keep trying, maybe one day my computer will smarten up.
