Why can't I build Cruisers or Dreadnaughts yet?
Playing my first game, and I can't seem to select either one.

Also can't tell why I can't make different commands besides "Standard".

Thanks for any help!

To build cruisers you need to research:
Waldo Units
Orbital Foundries
Cruiser Construction

To build Dreadnaughts you need to research:
Everything above
Fusion Power
Orbital Drydocks
Heavy Platforms
Dreadnought Contruction


Different Command sections require different Technologies. For examplle, waldo units unlocks the hammerhead command section.

Technology is the key to your question. New command sections and the additional cruiser sizes will be unlocked when you research the appropriate tech. WALDO Units unlock the Hammerhead, but otherwise you have to go deeper. The larger hulls are buried in the ship section a few techs down. CnC sections(very important) are buried in the C3 techs. A lot of this game requires trial and error, but welcome aboard. Some other posters will probably fill in the gaps better than I did.

Thanks everyone. Was afraid this game would be too complicated for me, but I'm really enjoying it. Just still trying to figure stuff out. I tried playing a small easy game, but got crushed by the AI. I tried to take his home world, but even after sending waves and waves of my armor ships at it, I just couldn't break through.

I'm also struggling with the camera in the battles. Slowly reading through the manual, BUT I WANT TO PLAY MORE!! :(

I don't think I have ever tried to take a homeworld before Fusion at a minimum. Even independent worlds are hard before Fusion.

Well, what you need is something to take care of the missiles, and something to take care of the population ... and these are available way before Fusion!

I REALLY need to read the manual. I'm tired of getting stomped by the AI on easy :(
