[FAQ] Factorio 0.15

[July 25, 2017] After a 3-month testing period Factorio 0.15.31 has been declared stable and will be rolled out to all Factorio players.

Updating is automatic - unless you have a previous version set in the Betas Tab. The default setting (NONE) is the most recent 0.15.x stable build.

My game doesn't start at all (no window/log file)

(should be fixed since 0.15.32) Some programs interfere with Factorio and prevent it from running correctly. This is probably the reason if Factorio only shows Running in Steam for a few seconds, then quits or crashes. No loading screen is displayed and no new log file generated. If that is the case for you then check that Factorio was not blocked by your AV/Security software. Also try disabling any software that is gaming-related, e.g. software for overclocking or software that shows OSD screens (FPS counter) ingame.

Software that has been reported to be (at least partially) incompatible:

• Razer Synapse (read this post)
  
• Trend Micro AV / Security (read this post)
  
• Comodo AV / Security (add Factorio as an "Exclusion")

If you find other software that Factorio won't work with (Factorio starts working when you close it but doesn't launch anymore after you re-enable it) then comment on this thread.

What are the new features?

These are some of the new features:

• Nuclear power
  
• Blueprint preservation (Export/import blueprints)
  
• Research Revolution
  
• Combat balance
  
• New 3x2 boiler
  
• Liquid wagon + universal barrelling
  
• Map interaction improvements, map tags and 'zoom to map'
  
• High res graphics introduction (This means just some parts of the game will be in high res in this version)
  
• Circuit network additions, improvements and optimizations
  
• First set of interactive mini tutorials

Can I continue playing my old saves?

Yes, but be aware of a few things:

• Boilers and pumps are now larger and this messes up your setup, you'll need to replace/reposition them
  
• You probably need to rework your science setup since research has been overhauled (7 science packs instead of 4)

My graphics look the same quality (no hi-res)!

Computers with 2GB or more video memory and 8GB or more RAM will default graphics quality to high. If you want to enable them manually (or check the setting) then go to Options --> Graphics and set the Sprite resolution (needs restart) to High. This option is only officially supported on graphics cards with 2GB VRAM or more, but some people have reported that for them it also works with less.

The following entities are currently in high resolution:
Resources, Electric mining drill, Belts, Splitters, Underground belts, Pipes, Pump, Rails, Rail signals, Rail station, Locomotive, Cargo wagon, Fluid wagon, Furnaces, Assembling machines, Refinery, Chemical plant, Boiler, Steam engine, Nuclear power graphics (centrifuge, nuclear reactor, heat pipe, heat exchanger, steam), Steam turbine, Car, Programmable speaker, Burner mining drill, Inserters

I'm using mods

Most mods have been updated to 0.15 already, you'll need to get the current version to keep playing. 0.14 mods are not supported in 0.15.
If a mod that you're using has not been updated yet then contact the mod author using the mod discussion page, the official forums, or PN.

My steam engines are not working!

The way power generation works has been changed, boilers now output steam on the side. The ratio between boilers and steam engines is 1:2 (1-20-40 for pump/boiler/steam engine).

Can I unlock achievements in 0.15 experimental?

Yes, achievements can be obtained the same as in 0.14 and 0.15 stable, with the same restrictions (no mods or console commands allowed).

I found a bug, what should I do?

It is recommended to only report bugs in the Bug Reports[forums.factorio.com] section of the official forums, this ensures that the bug is noticed and solved as soon as possible. Also make sure the bug hasn't already been reported, duplicate bug reports just add additional work.

Added to FAQ:

The game won't start

If you get the error message "Value must be a dictionary in property tree at ROOT.other" when starting the game then disable Steam Cloud sync (right-click on Factorio in the Steam library, select Properties, go to the Updates tab and uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization").

I don't have such a check box - possibly because I uninstalled and reinstalled before selecting the 0.15 Beta?

And what about mods? Are we supposed to disable them? Or can we continue playing normaly on our previous saves with mods?

Go into: Steam - properties - cloud - unceck the box that allows the cloud for all applications

I don't have that checkbox either. I turned off the beta but it's still missing.

I get the error where you have to turn of steam sync but i dont haave that option under the Updates tab. What do i do?

Modded saves will be an issue. Mod makers will update their mods in the next days/weeks, until then Factorio will disable all mods that are not 0.15 compatible. I will add that to the FAQ later.
