Krater
Bought this game when it came out, still broken for me...
I believe I posted in the forum before, concerning my inability to play this game when it was new(ish). Basically, I start the game and have a patch upgrade note in front of me and I can't click the 'okay' box that's there. The background is moving, the music is playing, I can scroll up and down but I simply can't click okay.

Kind of frustrated as I was reading back then that this game had many bugs and I figured I'd put the game away for a while and since then I've reinstalled Windows, upgraded some other parts, and still this issue exists.

Is there anyone else that has this problem?

i think the mouse is just off sync.. like try to hover your mouse around the buttons and youll see it highlight.. its kind of annoying, dont know if there's a fix for it yet. i think it works fine after that though
ok! it has to do with your aspect ratio, just change it to auto and it should work fine.
Thanks for responding... you were kind of right but not exactly. It was already set to auto and changing it to 16:10 didn't fix my problem.

If I want to click on the buttons I have to go basically to the edge of my screen and changing the aspect ratio was a terribly annoying task. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue.

Still can't play the game...
I was futzing about with the graphics settings and I now have it set to a lower resolution and I can't change it back since I can't click the buttons... arghh... I'm kind of pissed off now, games shouldn't be so frustrating to try and play.

Update: I edited user_settings.config and changed

screen_resolution = [
1708
990
]

I also have to disable full screen as that will never work. This allows me to play it as full screen as I can get on my 2560 x 1600 display. Very strange that you'd not set it to the proper resolution to get it 'full screen' but it works.

This is certainly not ideal as I find the title bar and task bar annoying but at least I can get some of the value of this game...

... and even with these settings, the upper half of the screen seems accurate to my clicking but the bottom half is out of alignment. :(
Hello, sorry to hear the troubles you are experiencing. Could you post the hardware setup you are using and the aspect ratio/ res that gives you trouble and we can start look into how to better support it.
As Fatshark says would be nice to know your exact setup, drivers etc, as this will give a better view off what parts are in your system and make trouble shooting a bit easier. on the 'old' steam forum it was usually a dx diag that was used to determine that.

It can be retrieved by doing the following

(1) Go to the Start button
(2) in the searchfield Type dxdiag and click it so it runs
(3) While viewing the System tab wait for it to finish and click the "Save All Information..." button.
Save your DXDIAG report as dxdiag.txt on your desktop for easy access (you may delete the file once you have copy pasted the information to www.pastebin.com or a similar site)
(4) post the link to your pastebin here

The dx diag will basically give the Fatshark team most of your hardware information making it easier for them to troubleshoot things

I hope an easy solution can be found
Sure, no problem. First thing that pops out while looking at this is that I've raised the DPI and out of the 500+ games I have in Steam, I have an issue with only one other indie game. Could this be another rare game that may not be compatible with higher DPI?

now that you mention it..I recall someone else on the old forum mentioning dpi..though I can't find the post and if we ever managed to find a quick and easy solution for it..hmm

Though if a DPI setting causes problems, should be easy enough to try, though I cant go to the same resolution as you can, only have 1920*1200 as max on my monitor.

Thanks for the dxdiag :-)

Okay, I've moved further on this issue here and here's the outcome:

1) The system DPI is tied to the resolution of the game in an odd way, in that the resolution the game believes its running at is not the resolution it's running at if the DPI is adjusted.

So if I have the DPI set to 150%, the resolution is also running at 150% of what you set it at. So if I set the resolution to 640 x 480, the game *sometimes* runs at 960 x 720 yet still reports it at 640 x 480. The increased number may not be accurate but this strange thing does happen. If I set the game at my native resolution of 2560 x 1600, it looks like the right resolution on the monitor but 50% of the game is running off screen as well.

2) If I change my system to normal DPI, the game runs normal and the buttons are accurate.

Changing the DPI every time I want to play this game is not ideal but if that's the unfortunate situation... then that's that.
If I get it correctly, basically what you by testing have seen is, the game scales with the resolution chosen in the game and the DPI % the desktop is set to, and not only the actual resolution you choose in the game settings as it should.

Regardless it does seem like bitsquid (the engine used for Krater) is determining the game resolution in a less than desirable way if your desktop DPI is not the normal one.
I think Fatshark might need to look into it, since they plan on using Bitsquid for other games, I would assume this thing will persist in all of them if not fixed at the engine level

... I really wish they'd fix this. They should probably pin my cludgy solution for anyone else that has this issue as I came to this forum to search for my post so I could try to play the game with a manually set resolution.

i dont get it why people has so many problems whith this game, and other games, i havnt had a single problem whith this game sins i bokt it sevral months ago, and i have an dual 3 g pros, 4 g ram, win vista 64 old nvidia 8800, and mosly all my games work fine including my newest game infinite, some of you even got way better pc than i and still have problems

The issue is a specific one that you could experience yourself if you really wanted to. The interface doesn't scale appropriately on a system with increased DPI and it fouls up the resolution settings. It's not a hardware issue, it's a design problem.

I managed to work around it by setting a non-standard resolution in the config file and sometimes if I set the proper resolution in-game it will actually work at the right resolution.
