They changed the textures and forgot to create a specular map to give it a wet look.
Its really stupid that a city under the sea should be dry.
They didn't forget the crappy specular effect. They took it out because it looked terrible. Underwater sealed city. Does not mean every pathway should have an awful specular look to it.
It is an old half-destroyed city under the sea.
If you remember, there is a f* plane destroying one of its pathways and a lot of water leaks.
The floor and wall should not be dry.
Sound is fixed on this version.
Ever since the original 2007 version, i've had issues with the sound cutting in and out when too many channels are activated at once. The remastered version finally doesn't have this problem.
The original essentially required that you use some stupid EAX soundcard, something that I hope nobody uses anymore.
And I agree about the specular effects looking stupid. It was some ridiculous phase in the 2005-2007 era where every game overused the specular effects. Sam Fisher in Chaos Theory was literally wearing a wet suit 95% of the time. It looked like someone lathered him up in lube.
Just look at the introduction of Bioshock. The lighthouse steps should be wet sure.. but only at the very first step. Why the f*** are all the bricks wet at the door? It's like.. 10 feet above the waters surface. It looks horrible in the original, even if the effect is pretty. It's not realistic and that's why it was removed.
