The "Is this game good?" thread
Hey.

I guess that since the game is on humblebundle buying it will be a nobrainer. Still, I have a bazillon of games (thank you compulsive consumism) and I haven't tried half of them. Why should I play this one before the other 60?

Thanks for the advice!

awesome beat the ai game where the enemy had 99% of the territory and u have to reclaim it without making the Ai too mad

its pretty good,i havent played enough to get more than a basic grasp of the game but everything is customizable when you start a game.
it will take a long time to get good at it though.
you have to take strategic resources without making the ai mad and destroy there home worlds to win.

You play it because just when you think you have seen everything before, the AI does something you never expect. This game is ass for eye candy but for game play mechanics it has an infinite combination (in real life hours comparison while the DLC just adds to it on top of) of systems and strategies to play. I recommend this game a lot but nobody seems to agree with me so maybe you should ignore my input.

This game is crazy good.

I don't usually like RTS games (despite buying and playing a lot of them) and honestly a part of that is because you only get something like 50-100 units max. These battles are thousands vs thousands. It's just insane. It's way too much fun.

Like the poster above me said, theres just so many combinations with ships and tech upgrades and... good golly. It is a bit of a learning curve but what good RTS isn't?

Also I love how it has so many options for custom games and the speed settings (not sure how/if that works in MP).

Not to mention it has some really good music for while you blow tons of stuff up.

I didn't finish learning it and i wll take my time to learn it, it seems it will be good, but i think the interface is not very friendly to learn

Hi Sagara Sousuke ( and any new AI war players)

You may find haveing a quick look at arcen games officail wiki helpfull in learning about the game. http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War:Fleet_Command

also here is some usefull hot key commands you may need.
(all of these should be held down when moveing units)

  • V = Free Romeing Defender Mode ( Ships will auto attack any AI in systme. Engineer ships will auto repair/build)
  • X = Attack Move ( I think this means that ships will chase Ai ships if they are in range but once they are out of range they will then return back to where they were.)
  • G = Group Move ( forces all ships to travle together at the speed of the slowes ship in the group. usufull for defending important structures or for ensureing that your ships remain in the clokeing range of a clocker spaceship)

Also 'Alt + Right Click' on ships to bring up a menu which has some outher fancy commands that you can do.

Ontop of this if you hold down Z while you have selected a unit/hover your mouce over an Ai unit then you will be able to see a graphic representation of its range. if you hold down Z+X then you will see the range of everything within the systme.

Hope this helps :B1:

This game is awesome! The amount of stuff and options are insane. You can change any tiny thing you want, disable one ship type, add in crazy AI behavior, turn entire expansions off.

However there are two important points before you buy:
1) The graphics are pretty ancient and are 2D. This is in order to have thousands and thousands of ships into play at once.
2) The game is damn hard. Like you aren't supposed to win hard. Like 5 hours in and you think you have everything figured out and boom you find out the hard way what a CPA is.

Absolutely great game ! It is one of the best SF Strategy Games I ever played !

I had the same-ish problem (I don't have that many games) and I have liked the hour I have played, the music isn't that good imo and tutorial is boring, but it makes up for that in the pure fact that 80 ships is a SMALL fleet where in other rts games its huge. It also have very customizable ai and slightly customizable maps :)

I am 30 hours into my first game on a 120 planet game(dont recommend starting out on this large of a map) and am only 1/2 way through my domination of the galaxy. The music is great, the complexity of the gameplay is great, so far I really haven't found anything bad about this game other then that I can't seem to get my friends to join me. IMO, well worth the purchase.

It's incredible. You complain about bad AI in games? Just play this game and get your ass handed to you. It's even good enough to handle two humans.

If I were only are allowed to buy three games in my life, this would take the top spot - it is that good.
