Validating steam files?
every time i start steam garrys mod needs to validate steam files, the same check each time. While it has this test I cant play other games becasue garrys mod is technically running. Why is it continuesly validating my files?

Be patient... When steam vlidates files it is fixing your whole game. When it reaches 100% that is when it begins to download, erase, and repair your broken files. Next time please search the net for cases like this. I've seen enough complaints about file validation.

I've had this issue as well for ages, so I asked Garry on twitter about it and his response was;
"I don't know, a lot of people are getting this lately - it's not unique to GMod.. something to do with Steam :("

Yeah so basically its just your game cache screwing up, a reinstallation will do the trick. Used to do it for me with TF2 AND Garry's Mod. This works for most people. Hope I could help.

I have tried both options that Mr Duffdude posted, but neither have worked. I've searched all over the internet and it appears that this problem has been plaguing gmod users for the past few months (the earliest post I saw about this problem was like in October or something). I sent in a support ticket about this issue perhaps two weeks ago but since then I've never received a reply. If anyone comes up with a way to get rid of this bug for good, lemme know.
I think it's all to do with your downloaded maps, gamemodes and addons. They all might be updates or just putting your downloaded things on steam cloud or workshop. I think this is my best guess. Maybe uninstalling all your downloaded maps and all other addons might healp it.

ik how to skip validating files but no 1 seems to listen HERE IS HOW YOU CAN SKIP:disconnect from your source of internet then wait for steam to say NO CONNECTION:launch gmod it vill validate to 3% then skip everything and say steam servers are too busy reconnect to the source of internet once steam has come back online just launch gmod again and it will start note: i recommend you let it validate once a week though(just in case something is wrong)

i agree, with xxstrikerxx, it only started to happen to me after i got a bunch of addons and maps, but my friends dont have as many other maps as me and they dont have to do it yet

I have had this problem for al ong time and have just given up trying a long term solution.
However it should be fixing issues or sorting out files, so it is not neccessarily a bad thing.
Overall though I think that there is no real long term solution for this. It seems to make no difference if I have addons/maps installed or don't. However there are ways to bypass it as why can't we live in peace :( pointed out:
