Science of the Portal Gun?

Hello, I'm just a portal fan-boy I started wondering about the science of the portal gun. Well, I started making this therory. When you get the orange part of the gun in Portal 1 you don't drop the original blue gun. So therefor the gun has 2 seperate parts (or there is a flashdrive in the orange gun that has orange portal technology, and Chell puts the flashdrive into the blue gun. That seemed a bit to far-fetched). I have not finished this therory yet ,but I need your help to finish it (I need help in these ways how you can see out of the other side of the portal, how you go through the portal, and how portal stick to SOME surfaces).

I would say that there are 2 guns (that you see anyway), one that only shoots blue, and one that shoots both, when you get the 2nd one you would probably throw the blue one in the toxic water or something.

The portals themselves are actually 1 thing, like a pipe, with 2 ends. They would probably distort the space-time in order to create a shortcut through.

I can think of 2 theories for why portals only stick to some surfaces, the first (probably more likely due to the conversion gel in Portal 2) that only certain surfaces can conduct portals, like concrete. The other theory is that they can only be placed on flat surfaces, and because the metal is slightly bent the portals don't work.

Maybe the gun is actually 2 separate guns that are pieced together so they look like the portal gun we all know and love (this would explain the large line in the big white part). Also perhaps the reason portals only stick to certain materials is because they are some special form of electricity, plasma, etc. which can only be conducted through the panels that Aperture makes.
