Verify integrity of game cache fails on Linux

Hi all,

just bought the game as part of the Humble Double Fine Bundle and went to redeem it on steam. The game downloads its files and installs correctly (or so it seems) but crashes on start for no apparent reason. After a Verify integrity of game cache check it says that 1700+ files failed the check and have to be redownloaded. When it's finished I get the same identical issue as before. I redownloaded it 4 times already and nothing changed. Every other Double Fine game on Linux works well for me. Any ideas?

I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 with the latest ATI proprietary drivers.
