Windows Black Screen after quitting game (1 file repeatedly fails integrity test)

I can run Psychonauts no problem. Anytime I quit the game, however, windows goes to a black screen and I have no mouse or keyboard control. The only fix I've found is to restart the computer or to disconnect the monitor and reconnect it after a few seconds.

I have verified the integrity of the game cache several times. Each time I do this I get 1 file that fails and supposedly is redownloaded, but it apparently isn't working. Any ideas to fix?

Can't do this after quitting the game as I have no mouse or keyboard control after quitting the game. The computer just doesn't respond to any mouse or keyboard inputs.

I could do that instead of quitting the game from within the game, but that's ultimately just another workaround. I'm looking for a fix. My guess is something about this game (and a few other steam games) is incompatible with some aspect of Windows 10 or the Geforce graphics card driver.

It's not the Geferce drivers - i'm having the same problem on an AMD card.

not realy a solotion but try presing shift alot fast to activate stickykey window to pop up it usaly gets my out of fullscreen frozen games that wont let taskmanager pop up. and once the stickykey window is up you can bring up the taskmanager window if you want.

I fixed this by running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode while running the game on Windows 10.
