I will start off by saying that this game has very little to actually "do" in it, it is more of an interactive story almost, but not quite. The object of all three of the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective mysteries is to gather clues by deciding on what people and places to visit. Once you have gotten enough information to solve the crime/s you will go before a judge and he will ask a few questions that you must answer correctly. Getting to the judge and answering questions using the fewest amount of clues that you can will give you a score. The goal is to solve the mystery by using only as many clues as it takes Holmes to solve the mystery. There is not a lot of replay ability in the game except if your score doesn't match Holmes' once you have solve the mystery. I wouldn't expect it to take very many playthorughs to match Holmes scores.

If you like Sherlock Holmes , or some not too hard brain teasers, you will enjoy the game. It is only about 60-90 mins of total gameplay in most instances for each mystery. As for the price, I would definitely go the collection route as it's almost half price. I would probably also wait til it might be on sale as well.

A running theme through this series is that the game system is excellent and the cases fail to live up to the possibilities. It's just as true with The Mummy's Curse, though it's at least the best of a bad lot.

The biggest problem with The Case of the Mummy's Curse is it becomes fairly obvious who your culprit is early on and there is one absolutely threadbare path that allows you to haul ass to the conclusion with irresponsible speed. But if you reach that conclusion like most people would, by checking with witnesses, contacts, investigative resources, etc., you could have a thorough, airtight case that still won't satisfy the judge. The game requires that you've done investigation X while investigation Y is intended to make it more clear if you're hesitant to make an accusation.

It's a mystery that lets you approach the mystery from a bunch of different angles to build your case but only respects one of those angles as the true way to resolve it. It's reminiscent of getting stuck in a Phoenix Wright game where you've already reasoned through much of the mystery but struggle with understanding the tiny logical steps the game excepts Phoenix to make in order to catch up with you.

If you are a fan of Retro games, sure this is one to add to your library, don't expect something like Night Trap or Double Switch though. I originally owned this game on Sega CD. This game is short. Given that it was originally bundled with 2 other cases when it first came out. This game is alot better than I expected it to be given that I played the original version, either concerning video or the interface itself I came in expecting my experience on Sega CD and was suprised that it was better. Hopefully they might release Volume II or III. I did not hate the game and found it interesting. It's probably not for everybody and there are really better Sherlock games out there. I bought it for Nostalgia purposes. If you want to step into FMV history this is a good example of it. Would I reccomend buying it? Yes. But depending on what you want to buy it for. I bought it for nostalgia purposes. The game is decent, has it aged? Maybe a little....

I love the tabletop version of this game, but the digital version doesn't stand up except as a curiosity.

The tabletop version has cool Side Quest mysteries to solve - little details that aren't related to the main murder, but give you some points for solving them. These have been removed from the digital version, but the clues relating to them are left in there! This means the game is left with a whole bunch of random plot threads that go absolutely nowhere.

For example - in this case, you can go to a suspect's house and stumble on a crime scene. In the tabletop game, you can solve that crime, and you get some points for it. In this game, Holmes immediately pins the crime on someone he's just imagined, and basically tells you to stop thinking about it.

It all makes for a rubbish story, and a rubbish mystery.

A fairly unique detective game, at least as far as I know. There's no gamified deduction game here, there's just a case, some clues (newspaper, helpful characters from the hospital, scotland yard, and a list of places and people in london you can visit), and when you think you know what's happening and who's the culprit, you go to the judge and present your theory.

Most of the interaction are presented by very cheesy short live-action clip that's really entertaining on their own, if you're into those kind of things.

Not sure if there's any replay value (though you can try to get to higher score by using as little clue as possible), but if it's discounted it's really worth to be played at least once.

A perfect game to be played in comfy afternoon with a plate of snack and a warm tea at your side.

Fun but I kinda hate the point system. Feels like the game is punishing me for wanting to explore it. I guess it's just a bad fit for how I like to play games.

It's pretty good but one has to be tolerant playing this. There is a certain game mechanic in place that gives you negative points for any unnecessary actions taken, places visited, etc. The higher your score, the worse your performance. But it doesn't even always make sense, because whenever you learn some new information about a suspect you talked to earlier, you'd want to revisit them again and perhaps confront them, however, you can't, since the game will simply replay the same clip as if you were visiting the person for the first time. It's illogical, and so points may accumulate, and the judge in this game might even question your education/intelligence if you slip presenting the case (what an a$$hole). But I suggest everybody ignore all that point system if they simply want to enjoy solving the case, which is pretty neat. The actors were okay, some cringier than others, but nothing terrible. The game itself is pretty short but all the while it manages to perfectly capture that cozy 1880s Sherlock Holmes atmosphere, which is the one I love to immerse myself in the most. So grab this inexpensive gem and solve that mystery, because the game is afoot!

A straight FMV-heavy conversion of one of the cases from the 1981 boardgame "Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective", first published in 1991. You solve a case by skimming newspaper reports and visiting any places or people who seem like they might be relevant - when you think you've worked out the solution, you take it to court and answer a Q&A to see if you were right, with your score being the number of investigative dead-ends that you avoided.

It's enjoyable enough. The video scripts do a clunky but passable job of being written to work no matter what order you're investigating the leads in, and the British accents are largely terrible ("English toffee? My favourite!"), but flipping through newspaper clippings and following up on anything that catches your eye does a fair job of capturing the amateur detective genre.

I don't think I'd bother to play any more games in the series, but I'd pick up the boardgame.

This was an enjoyable little game. Though it has little replay value, I quite liked it.
I must confess, I've become so used to games holding your hand that the lack of mandatory instruction was confusing at first. However, it was not a very difficult game to figure out.
You read the newspaper and watch live-action cutscenes of Sherlock interviewing suspects. Then you put the evidence together and present it to a judge.
It was less of a game, and more like an interactive episode of an older Sherlock show.
If you enjoyed Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment, this game is similar to it.
Due to its lack of replay value, I would not advise spending over two dollars for this game.

The main thing is to solve a mystery using clues from newspapers and visiting suspects. The less fooling around you do the best score you achieve. Once you have enough evidence you go to the judge and present your case. That's pretty much it. There's nothing else.

The game is short and with little replay value, other than get a better score. No bugs or crashes. Works fine on win 7.

This stuff is so vintage that is really funny. Also is entertaining. I recommend it for casual gamers and Sherlock Holmes fans.
