i only saw the link after the comment. anyway, they left a wrong message blaming our network.
better yet, give the info about update & servers down also on the error screen when trying to launch the game (mtg/stainless actually managed to do that)

Lots of companies don't post these kinds of updates on Steam, especially when they have their own media outlets (Twitter, official forums, etc). More permanent updates yes, but not "We're patching for the next few hours" kinds of things, usually. Steam is not the center of the gaming universe (yet, anyways).
Try launching it through the standalone launcher from Bethnet and see if it persists.
