-Yes! For the love of god buy Rising Storm instead of Heroes of Stanlingrad. Why? Rising Storm has ALL the multiplayer content of Heroes, plus the new pacific theatre. The only "pro" for Heroes is the SP campaign, but the bots are broken and it'll teach you nothing for the multiplayer.
-It is very rewarding in small groups. Communication is key anyway :)
Here is a very important tip: Capzones are key. Don't camp 'em. Don't stare at 'em.
