Sleep/Standby Mode
I'm having issues with the steam link thinking it is in sleep mode. As soon as I turn on the device it goes "where are you the system will go into sleep mode....etc." It goes away when I use the controller, but as soon as I start to play a game and try to watch a cut scene or anything that takes longer than 2-3 min for input, the steam link and controller power off.

I'm having a very similar issue except that it goes to sleep as soon as I select "Start Playing." The worst part is that the TV itself then falls asleep and I need to wait 30-45 seconds before I can turn it on again.

Luckily no issues with the TV but i have tried several things and still cant even play a game becuase it keeps cutting off. :(

I'm having this problem too - it is very frustrating trying to play any type of cinematic game. Then to make matters worse, the game will keep playing on my computer after the link goes into standby mode, so I've missed a couple cutscenes in Witcher 3 and Tales of Zestiria because of this :steamsad:

Same! I cant figure out if it's a defective steam link or something with my gear. :(

This sounds like a problem with the Steam Link firmware. The Link should only shut down after 15 minutes while you are in the menus, and the timeout should be much longer while you are playing games or watching movies. We will investigate and hopefully fix it in an automatic update very soon.

Great. Thank you for the response, I hope this is remedied soon in case I need to exchange it for a new one!

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. One of the only reasons I've shelved the link for a couple of days, otherwise I really like it so far.

Any update on this? This "feature" just caused me to lose like two hours of my City in Skylines because I got up to make some popcorn :(

The option to disable sleep mode entirely would be very welcome tbh.

I'm still having this problem too! It's pretty frustrating. I was hoping this would get fixed sooner, but it's been a problem that has kept me from using the link since I got it in October.

Same here. Can you add an option to remove the sleep mode?

Yeah I'm still having the same issue. Steam link has been collecting dust for weeks because it's unusable :(!
is there a way to disable the auto standby?
even if i watch movies the device just shuts down after the 15 minutes timeout. That´s really annoying.

the beta build 380 is supposed to fix this - it should release publicly within the next couple of days.

I finally (after tinkering for 2-3 days) got the beta build to latch, but it looks like it might still have the problem after setting the sleep timer to never. i'm going to test more, but we will see how it fares.

EDIT: Even after checking out beta 386 and setting the sleep timer to "never" in the UI I'm getting frequent "are you there?" messages while not streaming, and when streaming in a game if I don't use the controller to give any input the link will automatically shut down after 2-3 minutes. Super frustrating, and makes my link unusable for any of the games that I'm wanting to play on it.

Edit 2: Good news guys! After reading the newest beta patch notes, the end of the notes say "There is a known issue with some CEC TVs that cause the Steam Link to go to sleep immediately. This will be addressed in a future update."
This gave me an idea: I disabled the CEC option on my LG TV (simplink) and the problem stopped immediately. Give it a shot. I'll be happy when they bring a fix for this through the pipes. Good luck!
