Savegames converter (from GFWL to Steamworks)
Update:
I've made a guide for Arkham Asylum:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188089228

Update (january 2014):
I've updated my program. It should now be completely automated: saves are now patched and copied to the appropriate Steam folder (provided Steam has been detected by the tool).

Use the tool:
You can find the software, both the sources and the program, there:
https://github.com/pallando/gfwl-stripper/releases/latest

To use it:
  • Unzip the GFWL-Stripper folder somewhere, open it and start the program.

  • Select your game.

  • Check if the detected folder corresponds to where your old GFWL-savegames are.
If it doesn't, click "browse" and select the correct folder.

  • Choose the Steam account where you want to put your saves.

  • Click start.

  • Play your game.

Possible complications:
If it doesn't work, you may have a problem with Steam Cloud.

Make sure you backed up your files and try this:
  • Start the game.
  • Use alt-tab.
  • Move all the files away from the "steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote" folder.
  • Go back in the game.
  • Delete any "corrupted save" in the game.
  • Create 4 new saves in the game.
  • Put your patched SGD files in the "steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote" folder once more. (These files are in "GFWL-stripper\35140\remote".)
  • Go back in the game.
  • Exit.
  • Wait for it to sync with the cloud.
  • Re-start the game.
  • Check if it worked.

Finally...
This software was designed so that it might be compatible later with other games being removed from GFWL.
There is an INI file which contains information about usual save locations, the offset to the header to remove and the extensions used by the game.
Do not change it if you don't know what you're doing.

Again, this program won't delete your files, but take precautions when dealing with your saves.

I don't care about that sorta thing, but you did a great job for the many who do. Thank you.

Well, after I wrote this, I noticed someone else made a tool too:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/200260/discussions/0/810938810585539859/

My version (which is 2 programs) might not work. As I said, I just tested with 3 files.
But I hope it can help people. And if it doesn't, well, there is an alternative, which is great.

It seems however that at least 1 person used it successfully, for AA.

I can confirm it worked perfectly for both of my save files.
Thank you :)

Thank you for the feedback.
I noticed I put libraries in double in that zip file. I repacked it. It should be lighter to download now...

I can't unzip your new version, WinRar just shows some errors.

In the old version, there must be two folders. One for AA, one for AC.
I'm going to re-repack the new version?

Glad to hear it worked.
Also, I updated the zip file. I hope it works with WinRAR now ^^

I head you have to have steam cloud disabled for the game for this to work. Does that mean you can't get achievements and if you ever re-enabled steam cloud your file would be deleted?

I don't think you need to disable steam cloud.
You need to start the game fresh.
Create as many "new" slots as you have old savegames.
Close the game.
Edit your old savegames to remove the header (through hex edit or this tool).
Put the new files in the place of the new savegames in the corresponding "remote" folder.
Start the game.
Profit.

If you have the non-GOTY Arkham City game and migrate to the GOTY, some achievements you already have will unlock when you load your save.
But in AA no GFWL achievements you already earned will be unlocked on loading.

The achievements will unlock as usual while you play the game though.

Used an old save with the game complete and no achievements unlocked. Haven't tried in AC yet. Good game anyway so I'll just play through and unlock the stuff again.

Your program worked perfectly. MY 41% progress is back! Thank you so much!

no matter what I do, your tool, that other tool that you linked to that somebody else made, I cannot get Arkham Asylum working with this. if I manually edit the file with a hex editor, the game just crashes when it tries to load the save. If I use any of the tools, the game calls it a corrupt save.

Why? :(

Yeah, i had the same thing happen to me. The game crashes when it tries to load the new save. I renamed it too to match, took out the word new and made the s in save a lower case and not upper like it was.
