UPDATE -- 18 Feb 2018
It's been a very long time, but we think we have finally found a solution to the Microsoft immovable object vs. the Valve unstoppable force problem. Basically a config needed to be set a specific way, but the knowledge of how and why was lost over 10 years old.

The outcome is SteamWorks is now running as it should within Chip's Challenge 2, which in turn means Level Set sharing is possible with WorkShop. Plus we are looking at if we can fix the always online requirement too. Update coming soon, hopefully days away.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 19 June 2015
Version 1.1.2 is on the default branch. It fixes a few bugs with the volume SFX control not working on all objects, the Antartica level, creating BMPs and some bugs we had with the Preferences too. Please let us know if it works for you and what you think?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 17 June 2015
Version 1.0.17 is on the bug_test branch. This has loads of logic fixes but it also includes Preferences too! This is what we’ve been working on for the last week, so here’s what you can now change:

- Volume controls for music and sound effects
- Ability to turn off smooth scrolling
- Window size selectable to 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X or auto
- Selectable skins from bmp folder

Please let us know what you think?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 10 June 2015
Version 1.0.12 is on the bug_test branch. It has enhanced scaling over v1.0.9 so finger crossed it has sorting the speed issues some players were having. Plus another bug with the replay getting out of sync has been fixed too. Please let us know if it works for you?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 9 June 2015
Version 1.0.9 is on the bug_test build. As some players were having problems with speed and the Editor, so we reverted the default branch back. So you have the choice of either playing the v1.07 on the default branch or v1.0.9 on the bug_test branch, which includes the bigger screen.

P.S. We know you’d like to have an option for x1, x2 & x3 but Windows no likely that option. It starts throwing all its toys out its pram ☹ It’s something we are looking into, but it’s not currently being nice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 8 June 2015
Version 1.0.9 is now the default build. You’ll find the game automatically works out the size of your screen on PC boot-up and then tries to fit the biggest sizes screen from x1, x2 or x3. Plus we've also changed the layout of Chip’s Challenge 2: Editor, so that's worth a look as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 7 June 2015
Beer drunk, we’ve uploaded a special build to the bug_test branch v1.0.9. See if you can tell the difference and if you like it. There is one massive change and one tiny one ;)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 4 June 2015
It's been an amazing first week, thank you for sharing it with us. We are all a bit burned out so we are going to have a beer, sleep and play rather than code some Chip's Challenge :D

We've patched the achievements, please try restarting the game & completing any level. This should nudge Steam, which we've updated. If that doesn't work please send us your save.c2h file to - hello@niffler.co.uk

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 3 June 2015
Version 1.0.7 has been released on the default branch this fixes the Small black window / not loading. Thank you Becky for helping us find that nasty bug :D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE -- 2 June 2015
Version 1.0.4 has been released which fixes the over heating bug, working on Small black window / not loading bug with a new line of attack.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for support our launch, it's been a very long road to get here. This is what we are working on, with BUGS first then FEATURES:

BUGS
None hopefully

For the FEATURES below please suggest more and vote for the ones you want us to start working on first:

FEATURES
= OFFLINE MODE =
Let you play when you are offline from Steam

= LEVEL NAVIGATION =
Create previous level button, next level button and restart level button that are all customisable.

= STEAM WORKSHOP =
Make the game compatible with Workshop for sharing and reviewing levels, plus any file including art & audio.

= CREATING LEVEL BUNDLES =
This can be done by editing the text by hand already, but it be good to add it as a feature to the in-game Editor.

= PORTING =
It’s on our Wish List but this takes weeks for any platform. Crawl, walk then run and this is a run ;)

FIXED
Version 1.1.2 included the following fix:
= Achievements not working =
Final Nine or Completer Finisher achievements are not currently working. We are working on this one.

= SFX & Music Volume =
Instead of just on / off have volume controls. This is either going to be easy or really hard to add, so we are going to find out first.

= MAGNIFY =
Have it so you can x1.5, x2, x3 the sprite sheet aka make the player area bigger.

Version 1.0.7 included the following fix:
= Small black window / not loading =
Some players could not get the game to load or got a black box while playing. Thank you Becky for help us find that nasty bug :D

Version 1.0.4 included the following fix:
= Computer Heat =
GPU and rigs are get hot while playing the game.

Several of you have helped us pin point this one and while working on the bug below we found a solution to this. We are just testing the update, which we hope to release soon.

Magnify and offline mode, absolutely.

Hi, this is really great! I've been such a big fan of CC1 back when I was a kid and I'm excited to be able to play the official sequel now as well.

I'd definitely like to see volume sliders for music/sfx, as of now currently the music volume is far too low compared to the sound effects ;)

May we also suggest different features here? I'd love to see a way to disable certain animations in the game (although there's really just one that's bugging me; those green Force Floors, if there's too many of them on screen they kind of hurt my eyes because their animations are so fast and flashy).

Awesome. Already made a story-driven level for Chip's Challenge 2 which I think should surprise some people. Awaiting the Workshop support.

2x graphics and sound volumes (or at least more balanced audio) are very needed features.
Workshop integration for levels and mods is also a great feature.

A linux port would be greatly appreciated though I definitely understand why it isn't a high priority.

For the editor, the one thing it could use is being able to maximize the screen and be able to see more of the level without zooming out.

It's great that you guys are working so hard to improve the game even after launch. I imagine a lot of you are really attached to this game, given how long and hard you worked to bring it to Steam. You all have my full support.
VinLAURiA May 29, 2015 @ 1:45pm
Workshop first. I've got a backlog of nearly 200 levels to get uploading.
Andii May 30, 2015 @ 4:48am
Magnify, level navigation and sound volume are the ones I'd like most. I even tried to magnify the game myself by scaling the spritesheet, which unfortunately didn't work, so a way to do this in-game would be really appreciated.

Extremely happy about the release by the way, thanks for finally making it happen! It's even better than I imagined. :D

Character Select ftw
JenVincible May 30, 2015 @ 7:09am
It's a fun game, and I'm glad it's finally available to the public.

Offline Mode needs to be fixed as soon as possible, though. Those of us with spotty internet connections (people who live way out in the country, on military bases, etc.) would appreciate it.
Salty Spitoon May 30, 2015 @ 3:55pm
My vote would be higher-resolution rendering (so you can see more of the level at once), but that's not on your list of proposed features.

So my next most-wanted feature is offline mode. This game has more DRM than most big-budget titles.

I'd greatly appreciate a Linux port. The game basically doesn't run at all under Wine — nothing renders but a couple scrollbars.

3) Try using - WineD3D - http://sourceforge.net/projects/wined3d4win/
Copy the ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll into the game folder (Thanks SupSuper for that one).

Bug: Chips Challenge Level Editor crash randomly. It says Chips2 MFC Application have encountered a problem and needs to close.

It seem to happen if you mouseover the items in editor window in a rapid succession. Sounds like a memory leak or whatever.

OK, we've created a special build for people who are getting the loading & black window bug to test. Can you please see if it works for you now?

- Open Steam
- View your games in your Games Library
- Find Chip's Challenge 2 and right click it
- Choose Delete Local Content to remove the live version
- Right click Chip's Challenge 2 again but this time select Properties
- Choose the Beta tab
- In the field under Enter beta access code to unlock private beta enter the following unlock code:

alphadebugbranch

- Steam should start downloading the bug_test Build
- In your Steam library it should then say Chip’s Challenge 2 [buy_test]
- Press Play and fingers crossed it should run

If you want to check if you are playing the right build, click on About and you should see you have v1.0.2.

Can you then please then let us know if it fixes the bug and what specs and operating system you are using?
