Confused Over Controls? Play the Tutorial!

The tutorial is pretty short, and I actually find it fun (like a short, self-contained level). It even includes a hint about what key lets you escape. So, if you haven't played before, give the tutorial a go (select the tutorial option from the main menu).

Also, the tutorial will automatically update controls based on whether you are using keyboard & mouse or a controller. It will also update if you change the controls in the options menu. So, you might want to play through the tutorial again if you want to switch between controller and keyboard + mouse.

Lastly, while you can move items up to the hand slots to equip them (and that's pretty usable with the mouse), it's a lot easier to simply hit the LB or RB on the controller to equip items instead of having to move the cursor with the right stick. You can also put items quickly into your bag with the controller by hitting the X button to open the inventory (you can then use the right stick to select which slot you wish to put the item in the bag). That's a lot faster than moving the cursor up to the bag to put it in.

There's been a lot of player-posted tips and guides, so here's what I'd recommend doing if you're struggling with the game:

1. Play the Tutorial (see above).
   
2. Play the Game, die a few times and try to figure things out on your own - as this game is really about exploration and experimentation. Enable saves if you're worried about experimenting and dying.
   
3. Read these tips: http://steamcommunity.com/app/346090/discussions/0/523897653308098219/ . These will give you a general idea of how to survive, and a lot of people have said that these were enough to help them escape!
