Mini Downgrade ? Where is Volumetric Lighting ?
Hello!

Maybe I'm too early to aggravate the situation, but before the release of the game for a long time to wait, let's touch on a sore point for PC gaming..

I'm going to focus on two videos: Dawn Engine Tech Demo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMwovvxnX4Q) and fresh video from Gamersyde (http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_deus_ex_mankind_divided_golem_2_pc_ultra_temporal_aa_-37919_en.html)

If you compare both videos you will notice that the effect of Volume lighting is completely absent in the game. But the most interesting thing in the built-in benchmark this effect is present (http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_deus_ex_mankind_divided_bench_ultra_gtx_1080_temporal_aa_-37923_en.html)

Illustrative screenshots for comparison:

However I note that the rest of the game looks on a high level.:B1:

To be honest, it looks like they took it out because it was so annoying. It's BLINDLINGLY bright and looks ridiculous. The same reason most people turn off bloom and lens flares.

It makes the entire shot bright orange and you lose all shadow detail / colour.

It might as well look like this. =P

I never really liked it. Mainly because non of the game engines could handle it efficiently and it was kinda annoying to look at at times.

It's probably optional and in benchmarks, wasn't used.

Looks better without it.

Maybe it's an awkward situation and the developers forgot to cut the effect of the benchmark. Maybe they will add it with the first patch, as TressFX :grinsam:

Looking better without in your opinion doesn't mean the option shouldn't be there, to me it looks a lot better with volumetric lighting. That's what PC is all about options.

Thanks for the comparison. They need to re-enable some of those volumetric lights for those of us who appreciate the effect. I suspected some of the lights would be disabled in game for performance reasons, but not all of them. Volumetric lighting is awesome.
