If you have never played DS at all. Really what you should do is follow the holliday sales rules and pick up Don't Starve on sale. http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2pzl3h/steam_holiday_sale_2014_day_4_featured_deals_and/
By the time you are ready to tackle the game multiplayer, either hang out till we gift it to everybody who owns DS, or pick up the frontier pack if you can't wait.
Just having other people around adds a whole new level of difficulty (and fun). In that sense, it is a much more difficult game. So then it really comes down to your sensibilities.
Personally, I would just grab DS either now or watch for a flash sale so it's extra cheap, like JoeW said. I imagine DST's final balance changes on release are going to make it very clumsy to play alone ...
For example, in DST there is a creature that is meant to be fought with more than one person. I am sure it's possible to kill him solo, but it's not going to be easy; and there will be likely more things like that as we go along.
**ninjad by BeastBox! =)
In DS you can craft and find things that when you die instantly respawn you. However in DST these items can only be used once you are in ghost form, so if you are playing solo it means you'll never have a back-up life (unless they change/fix the respawn mechanic).
As far as I know, not at the moment. I think there is some sort of lan support tho.
Yes. DS-Together is a stand-alone game - you don't need Don't Starve to play it.
