How To Have No Lag In Game
Ive tested this numerous times and it seems to work.

Whoever is HOSTING, that person should NOT explore. [Roam the map] Ive noticed that the more Ive explored, the worst the lag gets for everyone else.

As the host, I just maintain the base to the best that I can, and rely on others to bring back goods to improve the camp. I know this may seem boring (if youre the host) but it really does help everyone else run more smoothly.

Enjoy

I've had severe lag in DST as well. Not only did I have horrible lag, but so did the host's brother (who lives in the same house).

Wow that's pretty stupid. I hope there's a fix for this or something. I noticed it too. I put the map on huge and I was just exploring the area and my friends kept complaining how it got laggier. I was thinking maybe the huge map was just lagging my net or something. My net is great so I didn't think that was the problem.

Last night i put the map on large and the 5 people in my game never experienced lag for the duration of 6 hours we played together. (i was the host) however, towards the end i started to explore the map and slowly but surely everyone started to feel and eventually lag to the point where it was unplayable for them. so ya, hopefully they fix this because its boring sitting around as host not able to explore like everyone else.

Lagh as hard as you want, you are wrong.

Started playing DST last week and the we experience the same issue. I can not explore as a host because then it gets super laggy for others. Darn 5 months later the issue is still here.

Set up a dedicated server, this discussion will all be irrelevant.

this discussion was to help those when dedicated servers were not avaliable

The problem is still here:
I run a dedicated server. The game always starts nice but I'm the biggest explorer of the team. After some time, (most of time around day 15 to 20) there is an horrible lag for me. Moving stuff and colecting stuff takes ages, but moving seems fine.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting but it didn't help.
Finaly found a "fix": delete the minimap file in my saved game (not the dedicated server one of course). When I reconnect, I've lost all my map but I can play again! No lag at all.
When I have the problem, my CPU doesn't often go above 70% (just as when I start a game) and still have 4Go of RAM left. The other player don't feel any lag so it's not the connexion either.

I don't know how the game manages the known map but I think the problem is to find there.

It seems to me that with mods like "complete your map", the problem gets worse. Trying a new game without it.

Did they fix it yet?

I've never had problems. We've run the world up to day 50 or so. The world is "huge", I have about 15 mods, and we have explored the world from one end to another. I run a cave slave server on the same machine, and the cave has likewise been explored from one end to the other. Not only is there no lag, but neither the server nor the client are consuming significant resources.

I'm running Linux - maybe it is just the Windows version that has performance problems?
