Steam gets stuck on closing the game

Basically, when I close the game, Steam tells me the game is still running (and thus refuses to launch it again), but there is no thread for it showing up in my task manager.
I can work-around it by restarting my Steam client, but that's not optimal of course.
Any recommendations?

Hi. This seems to be a common issue with certain games on steam. First try and clear your cache. Next try and disable messaging and see if that helps. Please let us know how this works out. We want to help.

Hi,
disabling the "allow Steam overlay while in game" option appears to have fixed the issue for me.
Since the Steam message popups would also occur in weird place in the game, this isn't a huge loss for me.
