Place Name Mispellings
I have found some misspelled place names on the map, and maybe other players have too. I thought we could post about them here where the developer could look over them and include the changes in the next patch.

I looked for the place name files and I think I found them. Are the *.OOF files in the Maps folders the only files that need to be corrected?

I edited the OOF files, but when I start a new game, the old place names are still there.

I checked the Japanese place names, and here are the misspellings I found:

In-Game Name -> Correct Spelling

KITAYUSHU -> KITAKYUSHU
COCHIN -> KOCHI
TSURURGA -> TSURUGA
SAYAMAKM -> SAYAMA
CHOSI -> CHOSHI
AMORI -> AOMORI
MUTSO -> MUTSU
MURORAM -> MURORAN
KITAHIROCHIMA -> KITAHIROSHIMA
KITO-IWOJIMA -> KITA-IWOJIMA
(All the dashes in Japanese place names can be removed as well.)
CHICHIJIMA ISLAND -> CHICHIJIMA (without ISLAND - redundant, and other Japanese islands do not end in "ISLAND")
HAHAJIMA ISLAND -> HAHAJIMA (as above)

Also, in Louisiana, US

SULPHER -> SULPHUR

If you have found a misspelled place name, please post about it here.

You would need to rebuild your cache files to see the changes. You found the right file.

We actually have a Map Errata thread on our dev forums. I'll copy your stuff there so it doesn't get missed;

For the Japanese spellings, in some cases we've found sources disagree on the English spelling for local place names. It is quite possible these are all errors though. I'll compare them to our source while fixing.

Thanks. I've lived in Japan for almost 30 years and am fluent, so if you need someone to check I volunteer. A couple of the spellings (like Chosi/Choshi and whether island is necessary) were due to different methods of Romanization, but most of them were actual errors.

One more: KATEGAWA -> KAKEGAWA

Also, most of these spellings can be verified using Google maps. Only a couple of them are small towns that you might have trouble finding.

I looked again recently and none of these names were corrected. If they are not going to be corrected, could a developer or someone explain how to edit the city names on the map? Changing the OOF files doesn't seem to do anything.
