XP Points?

So, on the top left, after I complete an achievement, I seem to be accumulating these XP points shown on the top left of the screen.

Is there anything we can do with these XP points, or are they just for show? When I click on it, it just opens the achievements list, as if I clicked on the achievement button next to it.

I remember somebody mentioning in another discussion, while they were playing the beta, that you could unlock traits or something with points they'd collect. Did they remove this feature or what?

Currently this AFAIK is just a summary of how many achievements you got so far.
