Essentially, killing Mt. Nomad yields at least 2000 echoes, far more than the 1200 echoes you could get from selling the sherd for Parabola-linen at Irem.
Granted, fighting Mt. Nomad is quite dangerous, though it's probably relatively guaranteed if you have a Corvette fitted with good weapons and maybe some blue scintillack. Just keep backing away so she can't smash her mountainous face into you.
You can easily enough run into Mt. Nomad for free, so it's kind of a waste of the sherd.
