Price difference?
Why 0.95 on xbla and 4.99 (4.49 whatever) on Steam?

A fair question with a sort of complicated answer.

The game was original made for the Xbox Live Indie Games system. I sold it for 80 MSP, because selling for anything higher than that was considered suicide for that platform.

The game has since gotten pretty popular, and I think it's worth more than $1. For Steam, I thought $5 was an appropriate price. Still pretty cheap, relative to other games, and I think worth the money.

I'd love to update the price on Xbox to match (that is, raise it to $5), however I am no longer a registered Xbox developer, and I'd have to pay a fee to update the settings on my own game. It seems ridiculous that I have to pay $99 to update my own damn game, so I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Good question. Hope that makes some sense.

so why is this game 1$=1€?
smid Jul 16, 2014 @ 3:14pm
I personally don't think 5$/€ is an appropriate price for a three year old xbox game which you didn't even bother to improve in any way, or plan to do so in the future.
You could have added one lousy game mode, or included the most expected feature of any pc game: keyboard support (not everyone owns as many xbox360 controllers as you seem to think).
Or even online multiplayer? Which would work great with your game (wich is awesome btw), people can share the same screen without being in the same room, i don't understand why you think that would'nt work.
In any way, thank you for your feedback

I bought this forever ago on xbox live. Had tons of fun with all my buddies, it gave us something to do when we hung out. Bought it on Ouya, had fun with my buddies. Now I'd like to buy it on PC, but it's hardly worth the $5 price point to me, especially when I've already bought this game twice. It seems that each time I go to buy it, the price rises. That's fine, you need money; I get it. But there aren't any extra features. PC is not the best platform to release a local co-op game, I really hope that with the $5 price you may get motivated to incorperate online play.

Serious question: help me understand why you are interested in buying this game for the PC, if you already own it on Xbox and Ouya? I didn't anticipate that people who already owned the game for one system would want to buy it again.

Serious question #2: If you've already played the game and had "tons of fun with all your buddies", how much is that worth to you? How much have you paid me already, and how much value (in dollars) have you received?

Setting the price of a video game is tricky. People will drop $5 to buy a bag of chips and a soda without thinking twice, but for an app or a game, it's suddenly a really big deal. How do you quantify how much a game is "worth" to someone? I have no idea.

I think $5 is a reasonable price for this game, but I will take your comments under serious consideration. I really will. But I'm not going to make any rash decisions yet.

Hope that makes sense, and I really do appreciate your feedback.

I am a potential customer for the PC platform, and a repeat customer. I saw that the game was finally on the marketplace and was expecting some game changes to follow the price change.
I don't use my consoles anymore.

It's a fun game, I've had quite a few 20 minute sessions with my friends and we had a blast. Now, my friends play PC, I have a PC; we can't all gather around a 24 inch monitor in my small office and play.
I've given you $4 for your game personally and have gotten 5 other people to buy your game. Sure, I've gotten my moneys worth out of the game, but all people really want is to be able to play it over the net. Most of the PC community people are basement dwellers, how do you expect us to actually leave the house to play this?

Yeah, it can be tricky. I understand. But I paid $1 for this game a couple years back. Typically game prices don't rise over time. They go down. I'm not saying the game should be free, $1 is practically free. I know you worked hard on the game. But what's going to make me want to pay $5 for this game? I don't see any new features.

I guess it's just that deep down I am disappointed that this game will be teasing me every time I view the market, I WANT to buy it, my friends all WANT to buy it too. But if we can't play online then there's no point in buying it.

Same problem here :( Maybe it's difficult / expensive to include online multiplayer.

Charge what you think is right for the game. $5 doesn't seem ridiculous at all. Reading your description, I can totally understand why it was $0.99 then and is $5 now. It's great to know you've gained some confidence in your work and feel comfortable charging a price you feel is appropriate.

I hope you don't lower the price because $5 is already a low price game. Assuming you for Steam sales you go down the discounted route, those who find $5 too much can wait and get a cheaper version then. You deserve a return on your work.

But really, you should try to add keyboard support. It's a crazy thing to not include in a PC game of 2014. There's nothing about the game that seems like a controller is absolutely required and a keyboard wouldn't work.

**pokes in with my 5 cents**
Hi! So pretty much I just shop for local-coop games and considering this one. It is an interesting conversation. Me personally, I completely agree with the Chips/drink but the competition for selling a game is compared to other gams. I just picked up Tomb Raider for $4, Hell, I already own the game, but I'll buy it as a gift cause it is so cheap. (then give it away when it is full price and be all, "See how much I care about you!")

So.. $5 isn't my insta-buy point. For cheapie games like this, it is like $1 to $2.50.

That said, I'll totally crap out the $5 at full price if I got 4 friends in the room ready to play. My justification is that it is $1.25 per player.

While I think it is a smidge overpriced, gotta say.. you price it higher at first and then lower the price over time on Steam Sales. Also getting your game rating up..

Anyways.. it is an interesting topic, and I'm sure if Steam ever does an Indie Dev conference, it will be a 5 hour roundtable discussion.

In conclusion.. thankyou for making fun games. I'll pick it up when I got friends on the couch and ready for something new. We stil gotta slog through the new Gauntlet.

Part of the reason for $5 was so that I could offer at least somewhat meaningful sales, which I plan to do at some point.

I also raised the price of the Xbox 360 version to $3 for a little more parity.

But still... I think $5 is a STEAL for this game. Just my opinion.
LoveAlotBear Oct 19, 2014 @ 8:14pm
If it helps.. I bought it the other day and played with friends. It was fun. :)
DonRuffione™ Oct 19, 2014 @ 11:14pm
$5 would be a steal if there was a online multiplayer. Steam is not a console. For example i have a gaming laptop and now imagine 4 guys with 4 controllers playing on a laptop :D
Adman  [developer] Oct 20, 2014 @ 3:34pm
"Steam is not a console".

You're partially right... four people crowded around a laptop is a little silly.

But with Big Picture Mode, the line is getting more and more blurry. Hook your laptop up to your TV and launch Steam in BPM, and you'll be rockin.
