UFO: Aftermath

UFO: Aftermath

Before anyone ask ... no Steam Key
For those who got the UFO or other 1C oldies from different retailers or bundle websites, 1C refuses to give Steam Key. "Why give another copy when you have a perfectly working one."

Quote from a post in UFO Aftershock.

Hello and thank you for contacting us,

We are very sorry but we cannot provide Steam key free of charge for the game that was already purchased from a different distributor. We apologise for your inconvenience but we simply cannot provide another copy for a user that already has a working one. We hope that you can understand this decision, please know that it wasn't made out of any bad will, we simply lack the resources to handle such large scale key sending.

Have a good day, Maciej Wechterowicz

On their defense, some will probably trade it while retaining their DRM-free bundled copy, but..

Giving them DRM-free is an act of trust and some will likely give it to some people too. So giving us, bundle buyers, a steam key isn't a loss, but would be a token of appreciation. We did beleive all UFO had steam keys when we purchased those bundles.

good thing it has no achievement or badge support, just do add nonsteam game
If they say why should you have a new copy on steam when you have a perfectly working one we could equally say, why sell on steam when you have a perfectly working distributor?

To their defence: why not? Nowadays people buy more games on steam than in a store i think .. and if it is not in steam, how to get it to people not going to stores? ;)
Besides: i played the old micropose titles and this is a nice game, though i think it lacks some elements from the original (entering buildings in tactical screen for example)
Enjoyed it as my DRM free version on CD as it came out years ago, but wasnt too fond of part 2 .. afterlight was better again.

so you as a consumer are being treated as another number, because giving away keys to a game you bought from another distributor is gunna send 1C broke considering the game is so new and offers so much..

Simply put this is plain greedy, the game is how old and not even that good, good going 1C - all you have is a back catalogue of anceitn games that are only good for bundles, im sure with this perspective 1C will come out ahead..

Publishers have to trust consumers all the time. Honest customers should not be punished for the actions of dishonest ones.

And by the way I'm not "the new generation youth"- I'm 44, so change your insult to something more applicable please.

Pay no mind to Just Dreiman he is most likely a troll, and the devs know that sales are going to be bad for this game so they have sunken to trying to sell the game to us for a second time. Lets be honest the this game is bad and it could probably use every sale it could get. But it is even worse that the devs have sunk so low that they are willing to try and squeeze dimes out of there shrinking fan base.

for now I recommend the add non steam game as I stated before or wait for a steam version of the bundle to roll along. I would not hold my breath on a policy change.

It's probably because the game is like a decade old and they had to do some code updates along with adding in steam overlay support. That takes time and money.

Kind of like how GoG gives really cheap prices on old games but they also update it to run on newer OS, since some old games won't even run unless you have emulators like DOSBox.

you obviously have never added a non steam game, the overlay takes 0 coding. They added nothing to this game other than cloud saves which also takes 0 coding it just uploads the save folder to the cloud.

Steam overlay takes no coding, true, but cloud saving does take a little bit of code.

Game is bad so you woudn't have bought it anyways henceforth you would've either sold/traded it away if given a key.

Why did you even comment to start with. You didn't buy it henceforth would not get a free key anyway.

Just do add non-steam game
No offense, to hell with that argument. Seriously, 'Add non-Steam' comments are from those who only think we care about overlay (since you did comment that there's no achievements or cards). I collect games, mostly Steam games, and I like to be able to get them when I want, nicely listed with an image tag. so I don't have to browse my bundle accounts for it.

Back on matter of trust, go figure how it works but it probably cost them to have keys working on Steam while many of us paid pennies vs worth for the 1C bundle.

In my case I have a Retail CD version, it would be nice if I could have a Steam backup. I know some games can be added to your steam library if you have a valid CD key. But UFO doesn't seem to appear on the list. :(

I just don't like depending on the CD, so they would make me very happy if they do this!
