Erm, I believe the developers have stated that if they can make the game multiplayer they will, the game is still in early development, give it some time.

If the developers can't find a way to make the game multiplayer, how do you think some random modder could?

People find ways. Fallout 3 Multiplayer[www.vaultmp.com]. In response to OP; from what I found out by searching (How I found this thread), they said it's "Possible" in the far future, but their main goal right now is on the Single Player element of the game. :)
