Previously, I used it on my iMac and was aware of the performance limitations of the 1GB of vram so it didn't cause me any issues. But as I am moving towards a professional career in the 3d industry I knew I needed to be able to make full use of MARI and doing so required a hardware upgrade. I purchased the new Mac Pro, fully loaded, expecting MARI to be very fluid but found it's performance to be quite disappointing. The UI is terribly slow, the viewport has tremendous drop in frame rate and using a custom shader with a spec and bump map almost brings the app and my system to a crawl.
As I said before, as a first time Steam user, I don't know if this is a MARI or Steam issue but it is certainly not usable currently. I've read about other Steam users having lag issues in games so I don't know if it's a similar situation or not. My hope is that there is a simple setting that will relieve this performance bottleneck so I can use MARI very fluidly as I'm sure The Foundry intended.
