Demo Links (Open Beta)
Thought I'd keep this up-to-date until I get around to uploading the demos to steam:

Windows[www.gearcity.info]
OS X[www.gearcity.info]
Linux[www.gearcity.info]

Please note the demos are not heavily tested and could be slightly more buggy than the Steam builds. Also they tend to be only updated during major versions. So they're behind current progress.

Windows 8 and 10 users may receive a Windows Defender SmartScreen warning. Just click "More Info" and "Run Anyway". This is because the demo isn't being downloaded as frequently as it used to, and I don't want to pay Microsoft's $400/year extortion certificate fee.

The Demo will be included with Steam for v1.24.

Download speeds are really quite bad, I'm very interested in this game, but downloading at <250kB/s on my 150Mb/s connection is a bit ridiculous. Have you guys considered a torrent, or using the steam demo system?

Around midnight EST last night the server crashed, thus the slow speeds.
Typically we mirror the demo on moddb, but I haven't gotten around to doing this (the current demo is only a week old.)

As for the torrent, not many plays the demo anymore, I would be the only person to seed it. I only have a 1mb connection so.... :P

As for Steam Demo, I plan on doing that after I finish the mac port and a few other little things.

Anyhoo the server should be working fine after tech support reboots it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Harddrives are bad, we're waiting for the RAID to rebuild. :(

Server is finally back up and running at full speed. I also fixed the link to link to the 1.18 demo instead of the 1.17.

Sorry for the delay, completely out of my hands sadly. :|

No problem. I was able to finally get the 1.18 demo to download early this morning. I fully understand drives going bad, I hope your RAID rebuilt successfully before another drive went.

Aside from one initial, weird crash everything is working smoothly so I'll definitely be picking this up soon. Thanks, and good luck!

I'm in the middle of uploading the latest build. They should be ready in about 4-5 hours.
If you just downloaded the game, you're on a ~6 month old version that had a couple of bugs that could cause a crash. I really recommend waiting a few hours then downloading the 1.20 Demo I release. :)

I downloaded the demo today. Is the paid version of the game much different? I followed the tutorial to design chassis, engine, gearbox etc. Got to the build car stage where I'm directed to Paint, but nothing would change colour. On next to adding tires and lights etc, I could not get the front bumper to attach centered! The rear lights took several careful clicks to get them centered and I had to majorly offset the wheel rims to get the tires underneath the wheel arches. I visited the show room and yep my car is all black, except for the seats which are the only thing I could change the colour of. Also, once the car was built the tutorial stopped, so I had no idea if my car was available to sell nor could I find the right place to go to set a price to sell at or where to sell etc. I know the demo isn't the full game, but as it stands, it doesn't attract me to purchase the game at all.

If you downloaded the links here, you're about 1 major version behind the paid version of the game. There is quite a bit different, but not too much. You can find v1.21 demo links here: http://www.ventdev.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=3188&pid=8151#pid8151

I'll update the links in this thread as soon as I'm done with this post.

Click the color you want, click the part of the vehicle you want to paint. Do not click anything in between or you will cancel out the paint color.

Nothing has changed in the vehicle designer. We will be getting predesigned vehicles once the artwork is completed for those who do not like using the designer. No major changes will be coming to the designer unless we get a massive amount of post release funding to redo all the artwork properly. Which probably won't happen.

Your video card has issues with shadows on high or higher. Change them to none, low, or lower.
If you're on OpenGL switch to DirectX (Windows.)

Also, once the car was built the tutorial stopped,
Actually the tutorial didn't stop, you just didn't click the "Continue" button on the final tutorial window in RnD, which means the next part of the tutorial was not triggered. You must click every "continue" button on the tutorial, or it will not work properly. The tutorials will be rewritten when the game is completed.

Next step was to simulate until he vehicle was done being designed. Then go to the world map, set production at the factory, assign the vehicle for sale at the distribution and then go from there.

Demos are up dated after all supplimental patches are implemented. So it will be several months before v1.24 Demo comes out.

I also believe they'll be on Steam this version.
