X-Tension

Update crash
So, there was a small update which may be related to compatabilty with Windows 10. I haven't played this game for a long time. But, now I see it crashes as it begins to load, something about Xtension has stopped working.

Anyone else have this problem? As I say I haven't booted this program in quite a while so maybe this problem has been around. I also upgraded my GPU last winter if its a graphics issue. I also have Europa Universalis IV crash on this system while it works fine on other computers I have.

Hi, thanks. Did so, validated as OK.

I noticed on another of the X games (Frontier) that it boots but doesn't recognize my mouse. It was also just up-dated.

The update was for improved compatibility with the recent Windows operating systems, basically.

What are your PC specs? Did the game work fine before the update?

Well, that is what I don't know for sure since I haven't played the X games recently. I am using Windows 10 now, an Intel i7 chip, and GTX 970.

Install all waiting Windows updates first.

Post your full specs for me also.

So, my game is up to date as of today. Not sure where to go for full specs in one convenient location. But, hey, I've moved on to other games...Elite, Galactic Civilization...so not really worth the time to get it going again. I see it was released in early 2000 and sometimes getting older games to work is frustrating and time-consuming.

Thanks for your input.

Why even bother posting about it then? I think it's AMAZING that a developer would care 15-freakin'-years after the game came out! :special:

Good point. I I thought there might be a simple fix based on the experience of others. So far, no one else seems to have the problem.

Oh, right. I came here with a purpose. I've also varified the integrity of the cache and updated my Windows 10 fully. I've tried launching it in all manners of ways, but no such luck.

Can you guys do the following for me -

- State exactly what happens when you start the game up (any error messages and so on).

- Post your full PC specs.

- Also include what operating system you are running.

I'm going to send an e-mail to Egosoft with all of this to try and see what's going on.

Cheers!

I have an i7-960 @ 3.2 GHertz, Nvidia 970 gtx, 12 gb memory, Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit operating system, no touch-base screen, not sure what else would be helpful.

The program starts to load, then immediately the message box appears stating that Xtension has stopped working and windows will take a look for a solution. Since it doesn't find one, you exit the program. Same if I run as Administrator.
