7 FPS with a 980ti, what gives? (SOLVED!!)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=682158734&tscn=1462924480

7 fps is pretty unplayable.

I'm running at 1440p.

Solution : DONT MAKE ONE BIG SECTOR!! Make many little sectors otherwise your game will tank. (Thanks Jaerv!)

This, however is much lower than I experienced in my own games. Even at a much later date my fps never dropped below 55 at normal speed. So I tinkered around a bit and made an interesting discovery: in this case the low framerate seems to be caused by the sector AI. You've got one giant sector with all your colonies except your capital. Without unpausing the game I deleted this sector and created 7 smaller ones. I then returned to the system view with your big fleet, et viola : 60 fps :) . I guess the engine gets into computational troubles when sectors are too big. Give it a try, I am curious about your results!

WOW Jaerv!

Nicely done. I can also report that after resectoring I am getting a solid 60 in the galaxy view now and improved FPS all round!!!

You made space great again! ;)

Some really crappy CPU intensive code somewhere that draws the outline for sectors maybe?

Still, amazing find Jaerv!!! I will update my open support ticket letting Para know and be sure to give you credit!

Here is the new fixed saved file...

Buy a 1080x, so you get 14 FPS!

Glad to be of service :D
Have fun !

This actually helps and furthermore may explain another issue I had and that was having a progressivly bad sector AI that failed to do its basic jobs.

I think there's a way to disable sector outlines so you could test thta. Though from a rendering perspective I woudl think rendering 7 small ones would be harder than one giant one

Wow, i was gonna make a thread asking why i shouldn't make one big sector. Welp that solves the issue. Next we need to identify what is the threshold before the game start tanking its FPS.

Feel free to experiment with my save game files. I am just glad to be able to play again :)

It's the CPU brother, I promise. Huge maps cause a fps dive on even beast machines by today's standards. See this is pretty much every RTS and 4X game I play, even civ 5 starts losing its mind after you have covered the whole map its just turn based so not as painful as it is with "real time".

If you could update the OP with the solution(s) you found that would be great.
Also love how you dont take the bait from all the broke boys who come out of their caves trying to make you feel bad for having a 980ti now that 1080 is announced; get money kids.

Hi mti_, I did update the OP once I found the solution. Also I am waiting for the 1080Ti then I can use the 980ti as a door stop or something like all my other previous cards...

They should Limit Sector Size anyway :P Doesnt Make sense that a Sector can hold more Core planets.

I'd really like to know this. I'm playing on the largest map and have only a few sectors. How much is too much?

How many planets its too many planets?
