THIS GAME IS DIFFICULT
I played all the tutorials, yet on the first mission for the Malus, I had to restart several times to even get five minutes in! How am I supposed to maximize my damage to enemy fighters? Do I just suck?

The only advice I can give happens to make sure that the fighter are in formation...

Wait until you get to the Malus' "Divine Path" mission.

There *was* a walkthrough on the web when the game came out, but there's no record of it that I can find now.

So only the cheats are left?

It is difficult but was designed around players with a different less rewarding game play style.

No, you really can play the game and win without the cheats.

I usually use my hands to play games, but that might work too.

As advice, and what you are saying isn't advice.

I could take as advice that getting all my ships destroyed as a good thing, but what do I know?

guess mflacy knows nothing then and only knew how to talk big.

Well, here what I can give.
It is largely a reasurse based war with whoever get the most mines and hold them win.
I am currently unsure of how some of the ships differ apart from simply thier size.
The added armourment like missles and torpedo do make a difference between their standed form.
Missles being good against smaller craft, but not as well against larger ones.
Torpedos are ment for the Larger crafts and cannot hit small crafts due to their speed.

i know im really late to this conversation but my best advice when u r playing is to always keep combat ships set to aggressive doctrine... also some of the differences in the designs also seem to affect overall speed... far as cheating goes... i noticed some of the time not sure why... cheats wont work either....

Try focus firing at one enemy ship at a time instead of drag attacking a group. Focus the camera on the enemy ships youre targeting so you can switch as soon as one gets taken out. For mallus ships I belive the fencer is your weakest (basically a scout), the interceptor is your general purpose fighter, and the marksman is the slow heavy fighter best used on light capital ships/resourcers/bases. Don't remember the captial ships off the top of my head, but I think theyre more self explanitory.

certain situations in the campaign the cheats cannot compensate for. the god mode cheat in campaign mode will fail against debris. at least of elathan and kyulek ships. also some scenarios the cheats will NOT work on period either. however most of the long drawn out missions it will accomedate for. because of the size and scope and speed of the game. i generally use the unlock all techs cheat once i research everything. i dont have 2 hours for each mission. and some situations its pretty unrealistic capital ships arent available.

No, I just don't hang around this forum as you can tell.

First scenario is fairly simple, unless you've loaded the Planetary mod.

First off, put your fighters into a formation (I use X formation, myself) and in agressive mode. (There's nothing around to repair your damaged fighters, so there's no reason to run away.) Fly over to the ping point. After the cutscene, your fighters should be able to take out the enemy without loss. (You'll get damage, but you really shouldn't lose any fighters.) After that's over, fly over to the resource base and kill the enemy over there.

After you get your reinforcements, make sure that all of you are in agressive mode and in a formation. Fly towards the incoming mystery enemy. It turns out to be an unarmed carrier that spits out a bunch of fighters. Ignore the carrier and take out the fighters. When all the fighters are gone, your fighters should automatically attack the carrier. It will probably spit out a few more fighters; ensure that *your* fighters attack them instead of the carrier. Keep it up, and you'll win the scenario.

*IF* you've loaded the Planetary mod, your fighters will fly in formation but split up into individual dogfights when actually attacking. You'll have your behind handed to you if your fighters fight like that.

i didnt like the first few missions in the malus campaign. most of the tips u r given here work and are the way to complete the mission. however my other advice would be to lower the difficulty setting as well on those early missions. i was never really a fan of the missions where u were unable to produce, repair, resupply and repair ur own reinforcements. i prefer to play the missions where construction is involved. anywho as this is one of fmy favorite games that i got out of a garbage bag full of pc titles im pretty familiar with it. u can message me and let me know if u have any questions about it man. and best of luck to you. dont guve up on this game. it is visually stunning.

You could always use the "HEY LOOK, A DISTRACTION" approach too. Basically, during a dog fight, make all your fighters break formation and scatter different directions, and watch the enemy squad. Your individual fighters are faster than the squad, always. Wait for the squad to go after one particular fighter, then re-assign the other four fighters of yours to pick off the enemy squad.

In skirmish you can use this technique to decimate 20 fighter squadrons using only one Interceptor M. Keyboard shortcuts are your friend, ctrl z for ram, ctrl a for attack for some improv dodge manuevers.
