Translation Guide

1. Locate the install path of the game and open the internationalization directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ImagineEarth\I18n)
2. Use the provided Resx Resource Translator tool by executing ResxTranslator.bat. This script will start the exe and automatically open the translation resources.
3. You can select the relevant languages and go through the resources.
4. OR: Add a new language (see below).
5. IMPORTANT: Make sure to try the translation within the game (see below).
6. Zip you localization directory and send it to support@imagineearth.info. In the future we will probably host the translation on github.
7. VERY IMPORTANT: Please make sure to always keep a backup copy of your localized files, since steam automatically overrides them every time we publish an update to the game.

Updating the translation for new alpha versions

Every (monthly) alpha release comes with some new and changed texts that need localization. To make it as easy as possible for translators we use the comment column to mark these entries.
- New or changed entries will have a "V**" mark in the comment section (e.g. V32 for alpha 32)
- You can use the sort function on the "comment" column in resx translator to easily find the new and adjusted entries. Click it twice to have all V** entries on top.

Mission Script
The I18n folders Bonus, Campaign and Script contain the campaign, bonus mission and free play script logic with all messages.\
Additional files ending with .si.resx contain the script logic made up of special keywords.
You can open them together with the other translation files in the Resx Resource Translator. This might help you to understand what is happening in parallel to each message (e.g. $c starts a condition and $a/$e starts an action).
*Any changes to the .si.resx files will be ignored - they are part of the game content anyway.*

PS: The keyword $sX controls which speaker is displayed with the message, e.g. $sLima.

Testing the Translation

1. To do this you have to edit the graphics.ini in the savegames directory (%userprofile%\AppData\Local\ImagineEarth\Settings\graphics.ini). Search for translationmode and set it to True.
2. Start the game. The translation data is now loaded from the resx files in the internationalization directory.
3. You can open the options any time to switch the language. In addition the is a refresh symbol that you can click to reload the translation from the resx files.
4. To help you with the localization of mission messages the message key is displayed in the bottom right when you open the last display message. You can hover this key to display the english original text.
5. **In addition you can press Ctrl+C to copy any text displayed within the message panel in the game.**

Adding a New Language

The easiest way to do this is to use the Resx Resource Translator (see above).
1. Pick the resource you want to add a new language for
2. Click on "Languages" -> "Add new Language". That's it.

Alternatively you can copy the resx files in the directory manually and change the extension (e.g. .en.resx) to the two letter code of your language (e.g. .fr.resx). Here is a list of all codes available: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh441729.aspx

I begin the translation to spanish ^^ but I don't know if I did it well, because not see the language in-game to test it.
SeriousMartin  [developer] Nov 10, 2016 @ 10:56pm
Have you set "translationmode" to True in the Settings/graphics.ini?
Afterwards you should be able to select spanish in the game options as language.
Lanosa Nov 11, 2016 @ 5:10am
That was what I needed. Thank you.

hi, support for translating is something what i am waiting (thanks for that), but if i am trying my translation (czech language) then is there problem with diacritics (ěščřžýáíé). Is possible support in future for these letters?
SeriousMartin  [developer] Nov 17, 2016 @ 11:48pm
Hi ýáíé are already supported.
We will add support for ěščřž with the next version. Thanks for letting us know!
TenLeffi|TTV Nov 18, 2016 @ 3:34am
Thanks, this is great! Thus translation into Czech will be able to start!
Lanosa Nov 20, 2016 @ 11:48pm
I see, on supported letters, missing the ñ and Ñ (caps), maybe because just Spanish language have it. It's showed in-game perfectly though.
SeriousMartin  [developer] Nov 20, 2016 @ 11:54pm
They are also in the list of supported letters - it's just hard to see them
Lanosa Nov 21, 2016 @ 4:24am
You're right, I was searching on wrong lines, but I saw them

Hello Martin
I working in translation french
The Gaz PowerPlant have difficult translation / by real life what-is-it.
But its good. I understand it :
it is not a normal Gaz burning and water use for creat a steam movment.
it is a gaz turbine,,, same to plane reactor.

file : Construct

line of problem :
____________________________________________
_ GasTurbinePowerplantEcologic
i have change the "gaz filter" bulding-mode title, by the "Elektrofilter"
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektrofilter
Because,, one other filter i not real. Or it is not a filter.

Two change: the title, and small reworking of the text to speak of "particles"
(french only)
Électro-filtres
Bien que le gaz-naturel brûle plus proprement que le charbon, ont _filtre_ aussi sont échapement pour d'avantage _réduire la pollution_ aux particules.

____________________________________________
_ GasTurbinePowerplantEfficiency
Steam turbine / Dampfturbine
Whats???? i not understand,, you add a Turbine-Steam intro a GazTurbine ?
It is possible... :
La cogénération : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cog%C3%A9n%C3%A9ration
Kraft-Wärme-Kopplung : https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraft-W%C3%A4rme-Kopplung
But,,,, the "Cogénération" not creat electricity, but Steam at different lvl of power, for urban heating.
I understand,, GazTurbine is electric powerplant,, a addon is for more electricity.. not realy right is reality.
... me idee for the game =

if
GasTurbinePowerplantEfficiency (cogeneration)
+
BiomassPowerplantEcologic ("urban-heating" is now "hot water for clean and drink" for district)
=
electricity used by disctric is low, because you not use electricity for heating home.
= so, is same of More electrical production, because you consume less.
= i cain say "my biomass hoting my drink water,, and,, my cogeneration creat electricity but too creat the urban heating for my house".

I'm not sure if I understand you right, so I will just clarify how the gas turbine power plant and it's upgrades work:

The power plant uses a gas turbine that is fueled with gas and works somehow like an aircraft's turbine. The rotation is transformed to energy (an aircraft in comparison just moves :-D).

The upgrade "steam turbine" generates additional energy. The waste heat from the gas turbine is used to heat water. The steam flows upwards and this is movement is used to rotate a steam turbine.

The "district heating" upgrade of the biomass power plant just uses the hot water to provide it to citizens. So you are right: This upgrade basically doesn't generate more electricity, but we decided to simplify this fact.

Difficult saying all thats
for a Simply game.
